Not really, but old Japanese cars in general are sort of creeping up in value. As the youth of gran turismo days are getting older and into money, they’re somewhat driving their heroes.

Plus, you don’t see them everyday so it’s something different rather than the common range of newer cars that are on the road.

I've been underneath it in a pit at a friends garage lol, those advisories amount to a few knocks on the chassis rails like I said, and surface rust forming on them where it has scraped the underprotection off.

I've wanted a slammed longboi for ages. Just be glad I didn't buy an A8/7 series like I wanted to a few years ago. :p

I get that for some things, but is a barge like a Crown really a hero car for people? Maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t rush to buy one of those on Gran Turismo ;)

GTR, Evo, RX7, yeah all those sorts of things, which are reflected in their values today, but not really stuff like Crowns or the relatively normal stuff.

Don’t think the older ‘barge’ type cars are in the same area as that stuff.

I’d have thought it’s more because they can be had cheaply and offer something relatively decent for the money whilst being a bit quirky/interesting

But a hero car that’s appreciating in value to a point in time where the Gran Turismo generation have progressed in life and can finally afford them, I just don’t feel with something like that ;)

I like them though and think they do offer something a bit different, with some interesting engine choices.
 
I bought mine because I wanted one. I can't really give much more information than that. Its how I end up with any car I buy. I saw it, liked it, and bought it.

I was looking for a stock UK LS400 at first, planning on buying some rims and coilovers for it. In fact I almost bought a stock 1991 LS400 with a blue leather interior, but it sold before I could go and pick it up.

This one was a purchase of convenience partly because he wanted a trade with the car I already had, it already had wheels, coilovers etc, and a few bonus JDM points for being a Celsior. :p

I expect my next car when I replace it will be something I import myself. Whether its a cleaner Celsior, a Crown, a Mark II, a Stagea, Skyline saloon, etc... Something big, comfy, and slightly odd.

I wasn’t clear, I did not mean a crown/luxo barge, I was referring to the more sportier stuff. However, Toyota Chasers are becoming a common thing these days.
 
After years of owning a bland grey X1 it was time for a toy again. I thought about a used M2 as a bit of a BMW fan, or a Porsche Cayman/Boxster. I've owned sports cars before, usually fairly rare ones. Deciding factors were something that was new but I won't feel guilty about the cost, something that was fairly light weight, economical and most of all, fun! Yep, it's a hairdresser's car in fake tan orange (I might as well get the **** taking out the way now :D), but really nice! Previous generation MX-5's never really appealed to me but find the current shape and the uprated 184BHP engine a better proposition. It makes me smile just looking over the orange bonnet. The wheels are forged and other standard goodies are Brembo brakes and Recaro seats as well as a part alcantara interior, with orange piping, naturally. Limited to 3000 worldwide.

I like my fast saloon/estates so anything 4 doors, JDM, turbo and RWD/AWD gets a big thumbs up from me. Certainly more interesting than seeing another Golf R or S3 on the road.

@DarrenM343, nice ND. I was never keen on the styling of the ND so didn't really take much notice of it until I recently saw a video of a Mazda tech explaining how the car had been designed to be as light as possible, basically going back to everything the MX5 stands for. Apparently they're very very good to drive!

Chasers, laurels, crowns etc are all getting popular here. Not because of GT but simply because they're different and often come with saucy engines. I was looking for a celsior/aristo/crown/laurel before ending up with the crown. Still there's probably 25-30 of them in UK so a very rare sight.

Yep, they're not cheap but then again you can easily spec up some mundane cars to the same value. Some reckon the wheels alone could be £500+ each. They're engraved too. Adding all the additional goodies to a standard car price wise means it isn;t too bad a value IMO,bearing in mind that the wheels are not available to other spec MX-5's.
Dealers weren't keen to offer deals but I think recently they've been trying to sell the rest of the soft top's so been dropping prices around £2k. They sold out of the RF (non soft top) a while ago but still have some unsold ST's left, I think they're down to 20 now left. There's only 550 in the UK altogether(soft top and RF combined).

Boxster/Cayman was nice but choose the base model and add a few options and you're soon a decent amount over £50k. Then there's the higher servicing costs, parts costs, insurance, even the tyres (the MX-5 only has 205's :) ). It's enough for the road I think.

Mx5 has always had a lot of special editions with decent goodies. But no many more non special editions around. They're selling quite well in UK by the looks of it... Great cars and I'd love one but not happy dealing with depreciation.

*I say new, but the thing is bloody ancient now, yet they keep pedalling it over and over with different wheels, seats, exhausts, spoilers, etc.

Sat in one of these in the dealership, beautiful car, wish I'd test drove it. The 2l version like you have is definitely on my radar for next summer!
