Lexus GS350

If you buy an extended warranty on a Lexus or Toyota, does that not defeat the point of buying a Lexus or Toyota?

Well...euro AA cover and MOTs paid for, plus free repairs on anything brought up in the MOT and a hire car. Its not a huge amount more just to pay it.

The whole point of owning a gs350 is that it doesn't go wrong much. Secondly it's an easy engine to work on, or so I've heard. That said you never need go near a dealership.

I'm just interested in importing since I travel to Japan at least once a year. I just want to try it once.

I'm not clear about all the fees though.

Do you think it's worth importing one of these?
No.

You're talking about paying a premium, to bring in a Lexus GS (of which there are already thousands here). Yes it would be very unique, but that's mostly because nobody else has been silly enough to do it and Lexus decided there was no point doing it themselves.

To put it in perspective, compare it to the other models in the lineup, the GS430 has better performance, better reliability but lower MPG, however the money saved by not importing the GS350 would cover that MPG difference for up to a decade depending on mileage (or you could have an LPG kit fitted, get even better effective MPG and have money left over). The GS300 has better MPG but lower performance. Finally the GS450h has better performance, better mpg and there isn't really much of a difference in reliability as it's the same car just with a hybrid system bolted on for quicker acceleration (and like most things Lexus they don't break much).

v300 is a 2jz turbo tho so that's the one you'd want to import.
It's worth noting at that point that you have all the worst maintenance costs of owning a GS plus all the worst maintenance costs of owning a Supra.

I do like the way the OP was originally thinking of having a GS350 shipped over from another continent at great expense because he was scared the motors/batteries on the GS450h might break (or that the fuel costs of the GS430 might bankrupt him), but now he's looking at buying a generation older version with a twin turbocharged engine :P

One could argue that the hybrid makes it more reliable as it removes a lot of stress from the gearbox. I still adore my GS 450h ... I haven't got a clue what I would change it for. Saying that, it is currently having a 90K mile service (on a service plan) which when they report back could change my prospective.

Be careful of owning one of these, great car but the suspension really isn't suited to british roads.
That was basically fixed a couple of years into production, if it bothers the OP he could either buy a later model or buy an early model and get the later shocks (or aftermarkets) installed.

It also depends a lot on what roads you drive, if you're not somewhere with a lot of speed bumps or potholes it won't make much of a diff either way. Though it is harsher than the GS350 he was originally looking at ofc.
