Police dealing with incident on London Bridge amid reports of shots fired

According to reports the attacker was out on licence from prison, having been previously convicted of terrorism offences.

Nice to see that the "rights" of convicted prisoners takes priority over public safety.

Most people with a gun trained on them would be compliant and maybe for a moment it was thought he was, enough for an officer presumably to drag the member of public out of the way. The terrorist then choose to get up against the instructions being directed at him to stay down, he didn't and a skilled firearms officer judged it to be on balance a clear shot to neutralise the threat. We don't know at what point the vest was identified, whether the restrainer called it out or it was spotted whilst the restrainer was being pulled away. Whoever the firearms officer was made the call as it unfolded based on several bits of info, at worst if he wasn't a terrorist they knew he'd just stabbed 5 people so at worst it was a reasonable call that this wasn't time for a straw poll on what to do next.

Most suicide bombers would use that exact opportunity to detonate their explosives, i value the life of the officers more than the ability to prosecute the person.
 
I watched some of the videos of the footage, I think the police officers acted properly and in the best interests of public safety.

Faced with someone who's been on a murderous rampage, with what appear to be explosives taped around them, continuing to put up a fight whilst armed with a large knife - I think the police acted in the way I'd expect them too.

Imagine the backlash against the police, if the officer had faltered at the moment of proof, and the attacker had managed to take someone else's life, or god forbid - if the explosives had been real and gone off.
 
Improvising a spear with a Narwhal tusk from the Hall shows great ingenuity, I salute that man! Something Private Jones was fond of saying in Dad's Army comes to mind.
 
I work near Tower bridge, but I commute through London bridge.

I didn't know anything was going on till I guy I play games with messaged me asking if I was alright.
All through the day, not a single peep from my family, other then to ask me if a AOC monitor was a good deal on Amazon...

I'm sure the rehabilitation that he received in prison will be of some comfort to the families who lost loved ones by his actions.

Prisons are underfunded. 20 prisoners to 1 guard, stuff like that.

They don't seem to have much chance getting rehabilited, just further indoctrinated :(.

Ultimately it sounds like the police did a good job today, and well done to the public for stopping him.

Indeed. If we want to keep people in Prison and rehabilitate them more we need to move away from private for profit prisons and properly fund them. More socialism.

But you don't know what their scope is, or what their tactics are. Evidently the people on here (or Twitter, or Facebook) delivering criticism don't know much at all about policing, counter-terrorism or the police use of firearms. If you don't have a decent understanding of the subject, how do you intend to criticise it effectively to the betterment of how the police use their equipment and tactics?

Their actions will be scrutinised as in any police firearms incident, but it'll be done so (ideally) by investigators who have an understanding of the training, tactics and deployment of firearms and firearms officers.

It was the surveillance officers and those in command of the operation who were found to be at fault in that incident, not the firearms officers or the tactics deployed.

IIRC there was some soldier who was supposed to be watching the flat but wasn't quite sure it was the 7/7 suspect as he was taking a pee or something?
