What retro things have you done today?

Well today I finally put a load of stuff on eBay - mainly my Amiga, monitor and the paraphernalia that came with it for £250. Then I'll feel better and buy more useless junk!

Edit - at some point I snuck over 5000 post, of which about 4900 have been in this thread :p

I wonder if he’ll take £0 for me to go get it.

I think his rambled emails means he wants the machine out of his out, rather than he wanted out of the house, so i bet yes!

Will pay for your part of your fuel if you wanna split it or something.

But i guess we both want the monitor as a spare :D

In other news i have a Chieftec Dragon full system with what looks like an A7N8X DELUXE installed, after speaking with the guy he is throwing in another A7N8X DELUXE memory and cpu, no idea why he has them but happy to take them.

May have paid over the odds at £100 delivered, but even cases with the door missing seem to go for reasonable money, figure a full system, which looks tidy inside and spare parts is reasonable.

No idea on the video card.

The boards are worth £40-50 on their own, CPU could be anything from £5 (an old tbird or palomino) to £40 for a 3200+ Barton. Essentially you’ve got the case for free.

I’m going with Radeon 9200SE for the card as it’s low profile and I think passive. Doesn’t look like a Geforce MX that I recognise.

Good way of looking at it, yea i suppose!

Was thinking FX5200, i hope not, already have two of those sat unused.

if the A7N8X DELUXE is wroth 40-50 I did well on mine @ 99p :p

@Firestar_3x its an Asus V9520

Ha, oh well we can't win all the time!

Got the Soundblaster Live working correctly in the S7 machine, DOS is now fine for general midi and SB compatible, don't think the machine liked the Voodoo II being installed, took that out put in a Promise Ultra100 controller, can finally use larger drives too......

Waiting for the soundcanvas and soundcard to turn up now.

Yes far from good lucking, but time fitting!

Found a black Lian-li pc-60 plus, got a Q6600, motherboard, ram and soundcard ready to go, looking to cover back end of Win XP gaming, need to think about video card, got 2x HD4890s, 280x which may work under xp, 8800gtx is a little old.

Suppose nvidia 900 series would be the best and last for driver support?

Had an offer of £40 for the ct1390b on day 1. There is one that ends today thats still only about £12 so not sure if its a good idea to accept or not.

Also I think you need to fit some SLI/crossfire in the top XP build for the swag factor :)

My Athlon XP build is underway. Still need to fit the cooler (waiting on another version of the Zalman flower, but all copper this time), and the HDD, but waiting on the 3D printer to finish the 3.5" to 2.5" adapter. Also waiting on the PC3700 RAM to arrive, though still may plump for some PC4000 if I can find any that aren't overpriced!

Need to add two SATA cables, the rest of the cabling is done!

System spec so far:

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe v2.0
Coolermaster ATCS 210
Thermaltake 500W PSU
Gainward Geforce 7 7900GS 512MB (might be overkill here, but I've got nowhere else to use it!)
Creative Labs Audigy Platinum eX

Very clean build mate!

How did you get the sata to work?

XP and Fdisk couldnt find the drive that I used even tho the sata controller was finding it.

I haven't yet, but I imagine I'm going to need "F6" OEMsetup.inf drivers for the SIL3112. I've got SIL3112 based add in cards here that I've successfully used to install XP on, so I don't imagine there being too much trouble.

Ahh I didnt think of that. So used to just using "normal" configs that dont need extra drivers!

That build is already in the loft so will be one for a rainy day.

Spent most of yesterday playing on my retro rig.. The AWE32 is worlds above whatever sounds are locked into my memory. Really enjoying it. Not too sure if the voodoo really needs to stay now... Have a few games where that are bottlenecking the p3.

Still thinking this might be massively overkill, I had a quick look on the bay to see what kind of prices AGP GeForce 7900GS are up for... my god, perhaps I should flip this on!

I can always “downgrade” to a 6800GT (which will still be CPU bottlenecked no doubt).
