F1 have offset their carbon emissions for years now. Including all the travel and flights they take.
'Offsetting' carbon emissions is a sham that allows people to offset their guilt. No different to paying the Church to repent your sins. It does nothing to actually reduce carbon emissions.

Used to love him as a driver, this season I'm not that fussed if he does well or not. As a person off the track I now can't stand him.
Lewis Hamilton - Pays no taxes but loves to cry about everything in a society he doesn't contribute to. He won't spend any of his fortune helping those communities he claims are disadvantaged/oppressed/discriminated against. He supports protests during a lockdown (How utterly irresponsible) He'll happily be sponsored/work for; Hugo Boss who made, you know who's, outfits in WW2, Works for Mercedes who made, you know who's, vehicles and gas parts whilst using Jewish slaves to do so, yet wears a lock on a chain because of the history of slavery... He also had everything given to him during his rise to be a racer when his competitors struggled to fund their racing careers. Claims he's a Vegan to help 'save our planet' yet used to own a private jet, a yacht, drive F1 cars and is sponsored by an oil and gas company. I will take NO lectures from the complete hypocrite Lewis Hamilton.

What would you expect him to do? An F1 car, throughout the whole season, pollutes less than a single transatlantic flight. Many companies have dodgy pasts, do you expect him to pick up on something that happened 70 years ago as a reason not to drive for the biggest and best team in F1? Or should he, perhaps, use his global standing to bring current issues to the fore and try and establish change from within? He can’t do a lot by quitting all that and will certainly be able to affect change far better where he is now.
would the school meals over the holidays been as successful, or even successful at all if Marcus Rashford wasn’t a globally known footballer? Of course not, the government would have ignored him if he was just a lad from Manchester. Having all the trappings of fame and fortune might leave a sour taste in your mouth but they both get and got more changed because of their position as well as who they are. Some others in their position stay quiet and say nothing. Those are the ones you should be upset about, not Hamilton.

If you can't see why he's a complete hypocrite, then that's a shame. He does one thing and says another, time and time again. If you wish to blindly follow him, then good for you.

Let’s be honest, any one of us that had the opportunity would choose to live in a tax haven or legally avoid paying more than needed.
Have to say I'm not a huge Hamilton fan off the track though I admire his driving ability.
Early days it seemed things went to his head a bit - probably understandable but at times he came off a bit of a nob but then he seemed to grow up and mature a bit - and I still see signs of that at times (his comment about not wasting time during lockdown for instance) and I was growing some respect for him but then of late he has been coming across a bit jumped up preachy looking down on people (not just over BLM, etc.) and I don't like that - like he doesn't appreciate that his position allows him to do things that aren't as easy a story for other people. I think my frustration though with him is that he has the potential to be better, has shown that he can be more mature and appreciative, etc., but I think some of it is part and parcel with the mentality that gives an edge when it comes to being a successful racing driver.
EDIT: I do wonder somewhat though if his life has just meant he has never truly had the chance to find himself as a person.
Some of that you have to be pragmatic about - for instance I own and drive quite a bit a large engine diesel pickup truck that doesn't get the best MPG (albeit for most of my trips you wouldn't get much better with the average car) despite being quite vocal about things like the environment and I probably *could* get away without using it. If a clean EV or whatever alternative was readily available at a reasonable price I'd jump on it however. We can't be beating ourselves up over extended past histories of companies (depending a bit on their current management) and there will be a certain amount that things come part and parcel with the lifestyle for someone like him that are more understandable than others.
EDIT: I will always push for a better world but there is only so far I will castrate or adjust my own lifestyle until there is an overall movement towards improving things.

Calling him out because Hugo Boss made nazi uniforms 80 YEARS AGO is plain ridiculous. Pathetic even.
I'm no Lewis fan but that's because he behaves like a tit and he always has, long before BLM.
I suspect if you dig into the companies anyone is buying from with any significant length of history of the company of people behind it you'll find something less than savoury somewhere down the line. You really do have to be a bit pragmatic over things like that.
Carbon offsetting is a joke, no matter what they say the CO2 is still being emitted.

Lewis Hamilton the F1 racing driver I love, one of the most talented drivers ever to live and British we should be proud to have him. Will have all the records in a year or two's time.
Lewis Hamilton the off track person would be someone I'd avoid in the pub! Has always reminded me of the kid at school who wanted to be liked but tried too hard. Rapper 'mates' and his singing career, eco warrior, veganism, now being the F1 Nelson Mandela it's all a bit too try hard.

You've completely missed the point, the whole point is he's a hypocrite. How can you be sponsored by those companies but then wear a chain with a lock referring to the slave trade hundreds of years ago, you can't just turn a blind eye to one thing with history and then start preaching about another aspect of history, hence why he is a hypocrite. He should just stay quiet. Another example, being sponsored by oil and gas companies and then telling everyone about how to be more environmentally friendly. How can anyone take him seriously?
You see the hypocrisy i'm sure.
If he really cared about BLM and motorsport he'd put his money where his mouth is and invest in grassroots motorsport to create opportunities for all..... but he won't, all words no action.

I understand the point you are trying to make, i just think it's a bad one. Expecting Hamilton to boycott them now because of what happened in the war is expecting Hamilton to hold them accountable, today, for what happened 80 years . They are not accountable, nobody working at either company today is accountable for that so why should we expect Hamilton to do that? This isnt the same as BLM tearing down statues of 'revered' white men who also happened to dabble in a bit of slavery here and there, for example.
The rest of it though, yeah i agree - he's preachy little gobwhatsit who clearly plays fast and loose with his own principles. Albeit, a rich and successful one....

Hamilton is a damn good driver. Well rounded, no big missteps on track and drags a lot of performance out of any car. The two recents clashes with Albon were ... out of character. If the worst I can say is he has a tendency to moan like an 7 year old about his tyres while in the lead and still putting faster laps than everyone else in ... then he's a just being a very competitive sportsman.
Not so keen on him off the track though. Ron Dennis/McLaren and his Dad kept him grounded for the first couple of seasons.He's been slipping off the rails ever since. Maybe he's wary of the UK press and I can understand why ... but there's something not quite right. Private jets, moving to a tax haven ... hanging out with rapplists and influencers. There's a tinge of selfishness and hypocrisy to some of it. Meanwhile he'll pop up saying the right things like "I love the fans" at the race meetings ... which doesn't feel genuine to me really.
Do I like him? - not sure. Don't think we've seen his genuine character.
Do I respect his driving? - Yes.
Not going to comment on the BLM stuff and other bandwagon jumping that have been stirred up recently. Doesn't factor into any of the above. I just see Lewis as Lewis, and any labels you care to apply be it heritage or life choices are ... well ... irrelevant to my opinion of his F1 career.

Having a private jet and moving to a tax haven is standard for the mega rich. Even Rubens Barrichello has a private jet

When did he buy the jet? People move abroad all the time, because he’s chosen to move somewhere with less tax that makes him automatically bad?
I don’t know what he was paid in 2008 but I’d do the same. As would most of us? Stevenage or Geneva
