What is white privilege?

She's still going on about George floyd when it's pretty much accepted that it wasn't a racially motivated death?

How do we as white people cope with the grooming and raping of 20,000 women by Asian gangs or the woman who was stabbed 7 times in the face after being stalked by some 'guy'. Or the girl who was walked home by her friend, only to be raped, beaten and murdered?

Are they? I voted LibDem at the last election... but thanks for deciding my views for me. This is a bad argument/assumption - essentially “you believe A therefor you must also believe B, C, D etc.. that are views I’ve seen held by others who believe A.” Presumably conjecture based on Brexit.

If you are happy to be described by mmj_uk as "the left" then ok. If that's the case I'll call you a leftie liberal from now on with your full blessing.

So who in that conversation is making a thing about her colour? Doesn't look like "The absolute state of the left" to me

What do you mean by “making a thing” here? One poster commented on it, it is a relevant topic and people, including me, discussed it.

“I’m so tired...” seems to be a popular cliche at the moment.

Mostly the result of media hype and cherry picking incidents based on race. This has prompted various people to repeat stuff about “antiracism”, intersectionality etc...

When negative individual anecdotes and extreme outlier encounters with police are hyped up by the media (or even ordinary police encounters are promoted as something sinister by opportunistic race baiting MPs) then a very distorted narrative gets built in the heads of these people. Like the US newspaper article not too long ago by a white guy fearful about the risk to the life of his mixed race son from the police... Innumeracy is at least partly to blame.

Where did I say I was either? In fact why should I accept politics as being one dimensional left/right? Why not just pay attention to what people say and stop projecting additional views/assumptions onto them?

For example in terms of tax, paying for the NHS I liked the LibDem’s policy... is that centre left? In terms of foreign policy I can be pro intervention - does that align me with blairites or tories? I’m generally very liberal re: individual rights but I think the Govt could have been more authoritarian on enforcing masks, contact tracing... and penalties for breaching the rules.

I guess white privilege is getting shot and killed in the back whilst on your knees and it not making the news. How many here have heard of Ryan Whitaker? I'm guessing less than 1%

Well it was on the news, so yeah...And would he have been killed if the laws on gun ownership were different?

How many people in the UK open the door to the police, holding a gun?

And why are the police so badly trained they don't knock first and more clearly identify themselves?

What's wrong with that? I've just watched it, and the crux of it seems to be 'if you are struggling, it's OK to seek help and talk to people' and suggesting people limit the amount of time they spend on social media and watching/reading the news and do some exercise. Something that is undoubtedly a good idea.

Is your concern here that it's aimed at a black audience? If so, why is that a concern? Otherwise, I can't see what is wrong with that video. Do you make other complaints about other media focusing on other groups? We best ban BBC Scotland and Radio 3!

Finally, what is your issue with the BBC suggesting people exercise, look after themselves and open up to people?

Which news outlets other than the daily mail?

I suggest you watch the bodycam footage as it's pretty clear you haven't.

I have actually, I saw it on Reddit a few days ago.

The police shout (not loudly) "Phoenix PD" or something like that, the guy answers the door holding a gun, puts it behind his back, the bodycam officer shouts "Gun" and his partner just unloads on the poor guy

Typical American police over-reaction, but because of the stupid gun laws in America, the cops have the mindset they might get shot at any moment, hence they do over-react far too often.

This is a subject that is being focused in on at the expense of context.

Whatever the ethnic majority is in a country then they will have privilege. It's not unique to white people.

White people are only the ethnic majority in a minority of countries, yet it seems only white people are being questioned (by predominantly other white people).

Obviously:

So you believe that in certain countries, black privilege exists?

Of course it does.
Same with Asian privilege or Arabian privilege in certain countries.

Typically I ignore you, but well done, you've actually thought about a topic and come to the correct conclusion.

Sorry I should have been clearer, he was quoting someone else then responding, he didn't start that discussion.

Is that better for you?

His response (comparing skin tones) is the thing that caused the specific complaint, not the discussion itself. But anyway, life's too short.

People don't things that are specifically for the blacks. They think that's racist and/or part of a marxist plot to groupthink our way to non-white supremacy in our green and pleasant land. After all where's the equivalent "how to deal with burnout when your white" segment?

It's perfectly legal in phoenix to own a gun, and within the law to answer the door holding said gun - which is pointed at the floor when he opens the door I might add - the dude is complying and submissive - hence being shot on his knees and in the back. Its a ****** up situation for sure, one that didnt really break into the news cycle. Now make him black, do you think there would be a difference in reporting?

maybe different people see it different ways, general reaction in this thread is same as mine, first 2 mins is the worst, what a load of self indulgent crap, who the audience is matters not and please don't make those sorts of insinuations

my issue with the BBC is the left wing, politically correct bias
