On paper, they've got the ability and tech available to beat it.. it's whether they have the appetite for it. It's a balancing act of yields/performance/profit margins - for both companies, but especially AMD as their finances are a lot tighter and they have the smaller mindshare... personally I think AMD need to push a product out that beats the 3080, it might not make them the most money short term but I think it's a strong investment in the consumer mindshare - it wouldn't look good to have another generation of cards where AMD is nowhere to be seen at the top. Short term financially, they're way better off focusing on 3070 level for less money and the market below - but even as an AMD defender, I'd probably be writing them off at that point if I ever wanted a performance card..

I don't think AMD does have the appetite now, not based on what happened today. That's OK btw at least we have options this time round and I'm sure they will do something decent for the lower segments.

I think if that production sample revision is quicker than a 3070 and trading blows almost with a 3080 then I think that is the Navi 22 someone tweeted about being reduced to $549. So basically I think they're aiming for 3070ti at a price only slightly more than a 3070. Big Navi I think will target 3080ti and be somewhere up to 3090 perf, maybe falling a bit short but better value.

I am hoping for similar. Big Navi performing between the 3080 and 3090 which in turns forces Nvvidia to release a 3080ti to compete at that level.

To them it could be a toss up between producing a bunch of zen 3 cpus vs just one of these hypothetical beast cards. Obviously they want to maximise yield and profit margin so definitely won't go down this route unless it was guaranteed to pay off. Couple things they might be fearful of:their Ray tracing performance may not be up to scratch yet. Secondly, if they went all out trying to get the fastest card on the market Nvidia may well pull something off the top shelf to p**s on their bonfire again. Though I agree if they pushed the boat out a little and took a hit it could help put AMDs name back on the map..If the performance was on top.

Would you buy a 6*00XT card that was 60% faster than a 5600XT, for £599?

Who cares?

How close is it to the 3080? Because if it's 30% slower, than I'll buy the 3080. But even if it's equal, I'd probably buy the 3080 due to DLSS and a change.
