AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

It needs to be twice as fast as 5700XT to hit the rumoured 3080 performance. IMO it does need to compete at that level.
A 56 CU model can do just that. 60-64 CUs could go between 3080 and 3090.
A 40 CU model would land slap bang between the 3070 and 3080, giving credence to the 16GB 3070 Ti rumours.

AMD are a FAR more capable Semiconductor designer than people think they are, and now they have had some R&D monies for a couple of years.

Speaking of R&D this just landed in my Inbox...

Holly Crap...

Intel’s R&D Spendings were 4-5x Higher than AMD over the Years, NVIDIA Spent Less than Both

WTF are Intel doing? and Nvidia don't like spending money do they?

My fundamentals were correct! Although, yes i should probably check i hadn't fumbled the keyboard input first before questioning someone else's figures :p :D

Fact checks are so boring say....Its correct enough lets publish it!
:D

Intel had 10nm fiasco, they poured money into that and still fiasco as far.
Then they hired the fired Raja and guess what?
He wanted cash to do his experiments playground.

Ah, yes, Have fun Intel with Raja draining your coffers....

That's a little odd, to have a 256Bit flagship card of that size. I guess the Big Navi Block Diagram was fake? That had a 384Bit Bus, did he say anything about that?

It might be the full die has a 384 bit memory controller, but that card has a die with 1/3 the controller disabled?? I was reading the Twitter thread, and people are wondering if the larger die is Arcturus. The next leaked die size down was around 340MM2. That should in theory be more than enough for 56CUs(maybe even 64 CUs),and a 384 bit memory controller??

n21.
n22
n23 as far we seen but then again, maybe smoke and mirrors from amd to aib to find leaks

It might be.

Ok.

What got me was that people looked at the PCB of that very GPU and concluded it only has 8 memory IC's on it, i suppose if its cut down it would, yet they also said there was no room for more than 8, i don't know where they would get that from mind you, maybe they haven't looked at the old Hawaii cards recently, they had 16 Memory IC's on them.

It feels weird having someone agreeing with you.
I guess I will feel a lot more normal with Zen3 and a Big Dog Navi in my computer.
My sis kid usually buys Nvidia and amd Zen3 as he listens somewhat to his Uncle expert
he is a 1440p player also.
Go big or go wide or is that both?
;)

Is the rumor of amd going back to dual gpu on one pcb true or was that just a crap rumor, i dunno where i heard it maybe here somewhere or on a site but i think they said they thought as in amd thought about bringing back their dual gpu cards. If so and with big navi would that be a possibility that could beat the 3090?

You're not alone :D

It could be it uses a 512 bit memory controller too. However, remember AMD did the HD7870LE/XT which was the Tahiti die from the HD7950,but the memory controller was cut down from 384 bit to 256 bit.

Yeah i had one of those :D and a 290.

That slide, here it is in my stash, has 6 Quad Channel 64Bit IMC's, 384Bit. i can't see anyone doing a 512Bit GPU these days, at that point it would be better to put HBM on it.

I just noticed a little nugget between the IMC + IO and CU cores on that Slide.

"Fabric" a tiny thing on that Block Diagram with a big meaning.

So yes it is ~33.8% - 61.9%

I think realistically, if that rather ropey looking slide is true, it's likely going to be roughly around 3080 performance with the standard variation you get between games. If they have started at "1.9", knowing marketing speak, it is likely more often than not 1.9x faster than the 5700xt with a few games netting a bigger increase.

At least it will have 16gb of vram though, and it will be interesting to see where they price it. They could really take it to Nvidia if they prices it at £500 or less.

Excellent. This is what myself and a handful of others have posted about for a couple of weeks now (using 5700XT comparisons ;) ). If it holds true, then I will be very tempted to pick up a card thats not only better than the 2080Ti but twice the performance of the 5700XT. I dont need raytracing but a few games in a bundle would be welcome!

dual gpu is likely a thing of the past.
what can happen is a mcm like Ryzen lifting out some things and then be able to add more transistors.
But that we have no idea if they managed to do so and solved the latency hit.

"Fabric" if that Block Digram is real Big Navi will be the worlds first MCM Graphics Card.

I think the extra VRAM will persuade many.

I believe them days are gone post 295X2... people just didn't want the heat etc, for me, I bought two fothem because they were incredible BUT nowdays people just want massive power, low heat and wattage for cheapest price... I think the development costs of dual nowadays would prohibit it...
