late to the party but I'm looking to upgrade my 980 to a 3080. Is there any point in me pre-ordering one now? (I want the TUF oc) or should I just wait for stock to normalise in a few months?

Both TUF models seem to be very popular after the good reviews based on the data that has been collected. I wouldn't if I was you (the spreadsheet @shaan200 put together estimates 1k for the TUF OC, and 2.5k for the TUF). On Asus (and Gigabyte and MSI) cards the numbers ordered here (and likely elsewhere) honesly make it better to just wait to see what starts being in stock earlier.

Any chance of an update with the new cards?

Seems extremely unlikely that it'd be possible to get a good enough data set to make any predictions on. Even with the 1800+ submission to the spreadsheet they have now I'm sceptical of how accurate the predictions past the first 24 or so hours can be. There is no way anyone but OC can collect enough data on the new cards to know anything.

Ok so I picked up my Palit 3080 at 5pm from OcUK HQ and got home around 6. Spend a couple of hours installing my new 850 PSU and then put the 3080 in, took the opportunity to clean my wiring up and re-order everything so I got finished up about 8:30pm.

First thing I did was run all the 3D Mark tests, I’m blown away by how my 1070 was a slideshow and this is so ridiculously smooth. I’ve then bought/installed Metro and Control to play around and they are both awesome, just as you’d expect.

However, and this is something I feel like you’re all going to experience, once you’ve done all that it really is just a GPU and at the end of the day I’m about to go back and play Elite Dangerous and probably some Doom. Both of those games were already getting amazing FPS on my 1070 and it feels like I’m back to normal now the excitement is over of installing everything and playing around.

I’m saying all this as I was just as excited as you guys, when I picked the card up my hands were actually shaking with excitement - my wife couldn’t believe how much of a nerd I was being! So I was just as excited as the most enthusiastic of you guys. But I’d encourage you to relax a bit, I know we’re all excited for the likes of Cyber Punk and so on, but a new 3080 really won’t change much in regards to your gaming habits once you’re past the first couple of hours of messing around.

If someone else wrote this sort of message while I was still waiting for my 3080 I don’t think it would have made me calm down, it was getting to the stage where I was considering buying one on all our favourite auction website and cancelling my order. I’m so, so glad I didn’t as I’d have felt a bit silly once the adrenaline burned off.

I’m coming from a 1070 and the 3080 do I’m not saying it’s not an awesome upgrade is definitely worth the wait, if you’re coming from the older 10XX range you’re going to see a massive improvement and your e-peen with your gaming circle will be inflated a bit. But even if this post just helps one of you take a breath and realise a big part of all this is being wrapped up in the hype and you question what the new 3080 will change in how you’re playing games you’ll realise it’s not a great deal and it may help you relax a bit.

Hah fair point. But at this point i feel that my 970 is getting old. Not that i can't run games, but on few i can feel bit fps drop. Doom tho runs still smoothly, was so surprised how well Doom runs on older gen PC's

Hey guys, Does anyone know why I cannot choose a shipping service to the United States. Are they no longer sending orders out this way? Thanks!

Oooh maybe that was a thing and happening then. I thought they was just considering disabling international orders for the new launches next time, not now :p

You'll need to post in the Customer Service sub forum at the top of the main forum page, that gets though directly to the shop staff :)

thanks for the responses dudes, i appreciate the help..

I know mate and as I said, my own post wouldn’t have helped me be any more rational! I didn’t think I was getting it today, it came in as a complete surprise at 3pm and I cancelled all my meetings and went to get it so I definitely know where you’re coming from.

My post definitely wasn’t a “You guys need to chill out, it’s only a GPU” sort of thing but more of a “Take a breath” sort of thing as I was definitely on the verge of acting completely irrationally.

Nice reply anyway and I’m hoping all you get your cards soon too :)
Yeah, I can't help but agree with you on the irrationality part. But I do want to add that for me at least, this launch has added a fair bit of excitement in my life that I haven't felt since the start of the lockdown. It distracts me from reality and provides fuel to emotions I haven't felt in quite some time. For this reason, I kind of don't want the 3080 yet but another part of me really wants a shipment notification like right now lol.

That being said, I almost exclusively play on VR which is sometimes very GPU intensive because it renders one image per eye for every given frame, so the difference will definitely be noticeable given how my headset locks to either 40fps or 80fps with no in-between to prevent me from throwing up too easily.

However, I'm very much expecting my GamingPro OC by next week (which is dangerously optimistic) so I'd say I'm at the sweet spot. If I was like a few others and had to wait months, I don't think I'd be able to maintain the current bliss I'm feeling about the situation. Also, congratulations on receiving your card. If your budget allows for it, you should definitely consider picking up a vr headset, the quest 2 is about to be dropped and it's offering valve index-ish quality for as low as £300 + however much you spend on the link cable to connect to your PC. I guarantee that you'll be re-gladdened with your 3080 purchase after that. Although, me tempting you with further purchases is probably not good on my part lol, I believe they refer that to enabling behaviour or something..

I know that calculator thing is a complete guess work based on user input but says I'm 5th for the asus tuf oc so really keeping my fingers crossed it close to that. I ordered at 15:18

Yeah, don't want to rain on your hopes, but I think it might be making a massive miss-calculation for you. Any chance yours was a phone order? That can cause your order number to be lower than the typical web orders so it esitmates an earlier time.

Manually counting the submitted TUF OCs in the spreadsheet from before 15:18 I get 13, and since we seem to have a sample of about 2k orders now, of what I've seen estimates of 12-17k, lets say we have 15% of the orders, so I'd guestimate you somewhere in the 80s, which is still pretty damn good, but still possibly not in the first delivery since so far they only seem to be getting "small" (<50) batches.

Just browsing r/Nvidia, not sure how many of you have seen this but a U.K. retailer was questioned about raising prices and this was the response. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/com...urce=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Not sure if posting links is allowed, moderators please remove if not. But just thought it put it into perspective how good (website issues aside) OCUK have been considering. I haven’t received my card yet and this is my first order with OC but the level of communication I’ve had here on the forum has made me a customer for sure!

@LoadsaMoney check this out

Yeah I just thought it was strange, I got my order in with OC at 2:14 on release day for the MSI G X Trio model. hope to get it by mid Nov lol

I ordered the msi G X too at 14.05 and I've spoken to 2 others who have received dispatch orders at 14.03 and 14.04... not long now I hope for us

I did mine online, was a right nightmare, 1st time experiencing something like that I'm chuffed to bits if I'm in the top few hundred at this point with how it's are going

Looking at the graphs based on a (slightly outdated) version of the spreadsheet if our data is good enough to model on (which for the first few hours I think it is) I'd say for the MSI Gaming (and + or - 15% on all this, it might be fairly accurate, but not amazing):
  • 14:05: 40 Orders
  • 14:10: 65 Orders
  • 14:15: 113 Orders
  • 14:20: 130 Orders
  • 14:30: 275 Orders
That early in the process the inaccuracy might be larger than an hour or two in, but I'd guess you barely missed getting in the first <50 batch. Hopefully MSI gets another batch or two in quickly (doubly so since my order was the second time the site started coping again about an hour after you, putting me in the 600-1000 range, so I need a good few shipments to come in. hope MSI's factories are churning them out).

You might like to look at the graphs also. The data suggests the TUF OC has kept selling at a much better rate than other cards, likely due to the good reviews, but started SLOW. I can't even find it to hover on in the shorter timescale graphs. You made a better choice than me (I was between ASUS and MSI, but after bad review on previous TUF cards, and good reviews on the last gen MSI Gaming equivalent, I went the other way. And to think, since my motherboard is ASUS I could have used just one bit of software to set all my LEDs to "Off").

I went with asus 1- cuz there a trusted brand and 2 - and the room in my case, I got a corsair icue 220t which max gpu is 300mm so my choices were pretty limited, glad the tuf just fits :D like u said about having an asus motherboard I do to which also affected my choice
