I have degrees in these fields, so I thought this may help somewhat when it comes to the high traffic problem. I can give you all some tips to better your chances at getting access to a site during high traffic. A lot still comes down to luck, but these should help somewhat by giving you some sort of a chance. Some may know this, and some may not, which it's aimed at.

1. Choose a different DNS. Some DNS servers offer better CDN Geo-location, meaning the time it takes for you to download a page can be improved when the DNS server is quicker at finding a better download server. OpenDNS is a good one. Some people use Googles' as well.

2. Stop hitting F5, like seriously, lol. Refresh is essentially putting yourself at the beginning of the race again. Unless you're hit with a 404, or 500, LET IT LOAD, lol. The reason for this? A website and its pages have lots of Javascript and Cascading Style sheet files. When you hit enter, the page sends multiple requests for the other resources which are needed. 1 request could be 10 or 20 per refresh, or even more. That's why it grinds to a halt. It might be slow as hell, but if you let it load without server errors, you might get ahead of others and onto the payment page.

3. Google Autofill? Yep, it's your friend. Autofill feature for Debit/Credit card in the chrome browser will help. Slow CSS loading times resulting in you not seeing the payment box, inputs, or even a button due to slow download speeds, will be quickened by using this feature. The browser can see the inputs, and all it needs is your CSV. Boom!

4. Physical Distance. Look for a retailer which has servers close to you. You can ping them in your terminal to get the IP, or just use one of those sites by entering their domain. However, sites which have DDOS protection using cloudflare will just return the cloudflare server location instead. Their IP will be hidden. Whatever retailer has the closest servers to yourself, should be one you make a priority. This will up your chances at getting faster load times.

These are just a few techniques I use to up my chances. I hope they help others too.

How does my 14:38 ordering ass not have a Zotac yet?!?

giphy.gif
I ordered 2 minutes after you and I hate to break it to you but I think we’re in it for the long haul lmao, I’m expecting mid October at the earliest

This has probably been asked 100 times so far but I can't see the answer.
I ordered a GIGABYTE GAMING OC on the 18th. All was fine payment recieved etc. Got an email just there titled '[Important] Order Update - OUT OF STOCK ITEM(S)'.

It says nothing about a refund or cancellation, I know th item is OOS but I just want to make sure, is my order still live and should it be fulfilled when they recieve the stock?

Cheers for any help.

From what Gibbo said in the early days, it feels like any stock they'll get over the next week or so are going to be so small and so ad-hoc that only the people at the very front are going to be getting any kind of meaninful progress. I've already resigned myself to the fact that outside of the official queue coming, most of us aren't really going to get any kind of meaningful updates until after Golden Week at the start of October, as hopefully production and distribution will have ramped up enough where OC actually have some semblance of an actual pipeline

yes it still exists, you will be in a queue to get your card. Having ordered the day after launch, you will be a decent way down that queue I expect - end of October/November using estimates from the info we have available so far - that email has gone out to everyone

I received the same Email a few days back. Yes, I believe your order will be fulfilled. However, you may be waiting a while. A lot of us ordered the same card, and an ETA on stock is somewhat sparse for the time being. We're all just biding our time until it comes in and the "first come first serve" orders getting through to a lot of us.

Damn man, I’m sorry this happened it really sucks.

Whenever I get my 3080 I’ll have no use of my 1080 and I’m honestly just considering putting it in a build for my friend who wants to get into pc gaming mainly for reasons like this. Can just see someone buying it and then claiming it’s faulty weeks later and as you said originally eBay always seems to side with the buyer.

If you report him, is there no chance that eBay could do anything about it?
Personally, I just punt my old graphics cards to CEX online.
Probably dont get the best price, but its quick and easy and they pay fast.
