AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

I know right! How dare I not take what Nvidia say at face value. Didn't I drink enough of the koolaid to feel their tingles to be true. Ignore history claim the 2060 as a the flagship card and ignore that the super variants were release after the release date!!!

It's about that non undocumented life. Exercising that free will to use critical thinking regarding their history.
:D

So use your critical thinking then. The 3080 isn't and won't be the only flagship as there have been others before it. You're ranting for no reason.

They lowered the cost of GPU performance. (And 50% looks about right) ...while simultaneously outperforming the previous generations best outright.

I don't care what number or name they slap on the side of the box. I just want to know how fast it is and how much I have to pay.

The 3080 is what generational progress is supposed to look like. (Crappy TDP not withstanding)

700 Ampere dollars now outperform 1200 of Turing's dollars. Full stop.

They could call it "Bottom Tier, Small e-peen edition", and put it on the shelf next to a $1200 "Top Tier, Massive porn-star e-peen edition" 2080Ti and I would happily buy the 3080 with the crappy name.

Yes the 3080 is good value for enthusiasts.. I would have pulled the trigger on it, had it supported SLi.. but you got to wonder why is nvidia selling an almost Ti class hardware for 699...It's due to the perceived threat from amd.. that's the gist of it, and that's what I believe other forum members are trying to convey.. though it seems to have veered into the hairsplitting territory

Welcome outside of the matrix..

lol, but not really. I'm working a lot of hours + nights trying to fix other peoples screw ups at work, so it really didn't twig as I'm real tired a lot of the time at present. I also don't really look at the higher end products normally. All I know was.. they are terrible value, so I don't even bother.

EDIT: I am always happy to see another perspective :)

I think that fear of competition from AMD is highly likely to be partially responsible for the return to sanity. (I still don't think Nvidia was happy with the sales numbers for the 2080Ti, no matter what they say publicly)

AMD still has a chance at my money if they can beat or get close to the 3080. But they need to let the public know if their new stuff A) Will be able to hit that level of performance and B) When they will be available.

If they choose to keep that information secret, then I'll buy a 3080 if I can actually buy one before AMD gives us a reason not to. And by "reason" I'm not saying an actual launch.

I don't need an actual card in my hand. Information is all it will take to get me to wait.

AMD has this information now. They can do whatever they want with that information, but I can do the same with my money.

I don't want to play "I have a secret." with a manufacturer.

Well, if there is an evidence that 24 GB of VRAM will drive the card with good performance in the next 5 years, then you can divide its present cost of $1500 to 60 months and get $25 a month for owning it in the next 5 years.
They can be 10 years also, if you manage the in-game and driver settings.

Know how you feel mate, since lockdown I was not furloughed yet the company had to send all staff away with laptops at short notice, so I had to prep then transfer data over a week or two then support them all from home which has settled now - but tiring when you have youngsters of your own at home to try and work around.

Unfortunately watching videos of people queuing outside shops for 3080/90's goes to show there are people ok with paying £800-£1500 for GPU's. I dont want to judge people for it, as its their money and they can do what they want with it, but c'mon £800-£1500+ for a GPU is mental!

@TNA :D well we know all about it @Chrisc its one of the comments that comes up often. :)

The more you buy, the more you save?

AMD simply have to get to 110% on that graph, ideally 115% or more. That's where the goal posts are.

I'm amazed there hasn't been a decent leak for Navi 2 or Zen 3 yet... 1 week from announcement for the latter.

I need something :p

I have to wonder what the mood will be if these RDNA 2 skus beat Ampere. Then Nvidia releases counter skus (s/ti).

What do you do in such a scenario?
A. Buy RDNA 2
B. Sell your 3080/3090 so you can get Super TIs/RDNA 2
C. Defend the purchase
