******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I backed this game 7 or 8 years ago, Have been popping in to have a look every 6 months or so. But from Oct this year i have really not played anything else makes all other games seem very small, and makes them look very bad tbh, With the way things are i think there is another 4 years to get SC to what chris roberts really wanted.

So if they say 2 years fair enuf, but to me it looks more like 4 and i am really lookin forward to what to come with it,

It's not much of a game but it's already the best roleplay spaceman game you can currently play.

I must say that this game is one, if not the best looking game to date and the fact it has this amount of fidelity and graphics rendering a whole star system is mind blowing

Would you rather have the mess of cp77 or a relatively bug free game?

Well, probably 2023 would have been the year for Cyberpunk to come out, full features promised and actually run well - at least on next gen consoles and PC! :D

Joke aside, too bad the quanta will be for Star Citizen only. I was hoping for some dynamic univers and events in SQ 42 as well. :(

Anyone know a fix to getting better gpu usage? My rtx 3090 runs around 50-60% utilisation and same with the cpu.... Is it just horribly optimised or is there something i could possibly do?

Wait for vulkhan intergation.

Right now the game needs some optimisation as it does not ulitise our gpu's fully

Its quite CPU intensive, especially in cities. What CPU are you running, what resolution and what frame rates are you getting?

on my 3070 I mostly get 100% GPU utilisation at 4k, around 30-40fps

I've installed and uinstalled so many times, hoping for better but each time disappointed. It's not a bad game, would have just expected abit more after all these years.

I'm using an overclocked 9900kf @5.1ghz, ultrawide 3440x1440p getting around 45fps when its really crowded but around 70-80fps in lifts or bare open areas. I've tweaked some settings and managed to sort out the stuttering i was getting before as well which made it really unplayable. I'm running on High settings.

Theres definitely to be had as both gpu and cpu utilisation is sat around 50-60% most of the time which is really weird.

I’d guess most likely CPU limited... star citizen is great at using all the cores you can reasonably throw at it, but there are still threads that are more demanding than others - are any of them hitting 100%?

The servers can be limiting too

What tweaks did you use

Picked this up yesterday after playing some Elite Dangerous and wanting to go the 'step further' of exploring ships/planets/moons, watching The Expanse & a load of good YouTube videos about the game, however in the last 24 hours it's drove me almost insane with how it all works.

So far I've managed to get through New Babbage and Hurston, explored a couple caves & nearby stations for the refinery. I bought the hand tool for mining & a set of Novikov armour with my starter money which is bugged with the MobiGlass but it gives protection to the elements which I needed (I think!). I just spent 3 hours doing 2 investigation contracts, the first was fine but I can't sell any of my ore to the trading console (finding the Admin office also took way too long) and the second I couldn't jump direct to it for whatever reason (Hurston Cave), so spent 20 minutes AFK orbiting the planet to get to it, got into the cave and done a bit of mining and then the server died and put me back to HUL-L2 so meant losing 45 minutes (still can't sell the ore!)

Ignoring that, the one thing that is infuriating me the most is you can't pick up gems quickly as storing them is "unavailable", so 7 gems takes over a minute to put into your backpack and it hurts the soul so much especially as the animation is so janky. Going to leave it for tonight and go back to it tomorrow I think, but so far I'm a bit dissapointed with the basic gameplay as I thought would be fairly shaped up after watching other people on YouTube etc.

Performance wise it's as I expected, I have a 9600K and a GTX 1080 running 3440x1440, but found 1920x1080 gives a nice smooth experience on high.

Edit: It's also a bit draining that everything I wanted to do I first had to google/youtube to get the answer for it, I'm not sure if I missed any in game guides?

There are some particularly annoying little bugs in this patch with navigation and trading/selling. I don't blame you for feeling that way.
Picking gems up by hand has been crap for ages though :D

As for in game guides, nah. It's a nightmare for new players, but you did well to watch some videos first.

Watched a mixture from Morphologis, BoredGamer and a couple others which have helped a lot in understanding the basics which has eased a bit of the pain of learning everything :D.

One thing that I did find funny was I landed at a planet base (forgot the name) but didn't realise there was a hangar underground I was meant to go to but instead landed outside, got out the ship and it was horrifically windy so got back in & then got fined for trespassing. Didn't think much of it and landed properly anyway, got out the ship and got blasted by the security guards! :p

Edit: Can you not buy food at the pizza or noodle shop? I'm at HUR-L2 and can't find a place to eat! (I decided to give it another blast tonight)
Edit 2: Might be a short lived blast, it can't retrieve my ship. I logged out and back in and still the same, seems to be soft-locked to landing pad 03.

You picked probably the only two food vendors that don't sell food :D
As for the ship retrieval, it's an odd bug that usually means you need to spawn it at another location**. I can't remember the last time it happened to me, but I see other people in chat having the issue often enough.
**If not, then it'll require a character reset, which isn't as bad as it sounds.

Tbh I am also on 3440x1440p with 6900xt and 5950x and am getting solid 60fps running high settings but it doesn't seem to matter where I am and the GPU utilisation is around 40% and CPU around 15%. It will be a good number of years before they get to looking at optimising. Based on the new/latest roadmap I expect 2025 in all honesty.

Yeah I saw another person had the same issue, he needed to get picked up and taken to another station I think. I'll try spawn somewhere else but if that doesn't work I'll do the reset (not got much to lose! :p)

Got your trust message as well :)

Played for about 4-5 hours today and set myself a goal of getting 100K+ AUEC to rent some ships to make some money trading/delivering but only managed a total of 10K profit as was hit with so many bugs. The main ones were; FPS mining ended early as it just stopped allowing me to pick up items/gems, I did a mercenary mission and went to a planet location which hadn't loaded which then just "spawned the base in" and destroyed my ship where I had landed & just now I got a bug with my heartrate stuck at 170+ that doesn't reset with a suicide so I can't sprint anywhere now.

I guess another character reset will fix that? Am I being super unlucky with bugs or is this normal?
