When will GPUs return to normal pricing....

Rather of topic..... But, I've been happily using my 55e7 for 3+ years now and all sorts of HDR gaming, no sign of any burn in or image retention (the newer models are even more resistant to image retention etc.) Even if there was any, I would sooner replace it with another £1k OLED 3 years down the line than pay for a £1-3k LCD monitor

Got 60 hours in cyberpunk now too, although not hdr since it's broke and this is where oleds self emissive pixels is great as you still get true blacks, almost like HDR lite mode.

All in all, GPU pricing looks good if you compare it to the monitor market! :o

Yeah OLEDs is the way to go and it's an expense I will take once 4k gaming is as easy to power as 1440p is now. I don't care much for grainy interpolation though it seems from what i've read that OLEDs deals with that surprisingly well apparently, dunno if its true.

That revenue chart is scary

it says that mobile phone game revenue nearly match pc revenue back in 2006, a year before the iPhone was released

it's weird how handheld console revenue is almost nothing, so they are counting the Nintendo switch as a home console not handheld

Built a modest 4K video editing rig (Ryzen 5 3600, 1650 super, 32Gig) back in early March this year. Now my partner needs an upgrade, was going to build the same thing but DAMN I seem to have missed what's been happening. Everything is more expensive or (as people have noted) you can't even get something like a 1650.

Some outrageous prices. May wait it out now until her birthday in 3 months. Took me long enough to get a PS5, I'm not playing that game again, checking sites, getting alerts but missing out on checkout (sorry, an error has occurred) at all hours. Bots grabbing stuff in seconds.

ocuk forum mentality when it gets sold:

‘i paid a bit more than i wanted but it’s a good card...’

I quite doubt that it will ever be sold.
He can look for a million, the question is who would give so much.

Remember - RTX 3060 Ti is a card that should cost not more than $250.

Like thats gonna happen anytime soon considering rx570 are going for £200 and up for the 8gb versh.
If people refused to pay the prices these people are asking, they'd come down in price

The RTX 3060ti is a GA102 die, normally that die would be xx70 series. Nvidia have moved their whole stack around.

Love the new Linus video about a budget friendly PC at $1000 which is inferior to a $500 console in every way

Just seen this video. It also relies on a discontinued GPU which isn't readily available (I appreciate Xbox Series or PS5 aren't either) and the cost doesn't account for the OS, high-end monitor and accessories that you need to use the PC. I assume that's easily another $1,000 on the price once included. Even now it's much more likely people have an existing TV for any console to use. Also I would assume in the UK the prices would be more expensive.

The reality is that you can buy console and non-gaming PC (i.e. a laptop) for cheaper than even a budget gaming PC atm. For some that will be the better option.

Last time around when the 2070 was the TU106 die, people defended it saying it doesn't matter what die it uses, only the perf and the price.

So who cares if the 3060 is a 102 die? Doesn't matter according to the same logic.

Not gonna lie, I am currently without any PC components (using a 2013 i5 MBP for now), and whilst I've used the PS4 to keep me occupied over the holidays, I'm missing out on my MMO fix. I've been holding out for a 59*0x and some form of GPU, starting to consider a 5600X and whatever I can get my hands on... but GPU wise... honestly you can pick up "gaming" laptops for around a grand that would likely put out decent FPS in any MMOs, but the best GPU I can find is a GTX1650 (a GPU that struggles to keep 60fps at 1080p on modern games) - and even those are kinda rare!

If you'd said to me five years ago that once I had enough cash to buy a top-end gaming and development rig, that I'd be considering buying a mid-range laptop instead... well.

And this time around the 3060ti is very close to the 3070 so you can expect the price to be very similar.

It's actually difficult to figure out what the MSRP really is as the MSRP set by Nvidia is totally unrealistic for AIB's. The FE cards are the only ones that can make it to market at MSRP and supply is even smaller for them.

Yea, it won't work for everyone. Console gaming will never replace PC for some.

In 2018 I did buy an Asus gaming laptop which is based on an i7 8750 and Nvidia 1070 and it's been great. Particularly now with the kids home schooling and the other half working from home. I've been able to sit down anywhere in the house and game if I need to. At the time the specs were the exact same price as building a desktop (which is amazing given how expensive mobile tech was once). I still play TESO although I'm getting tired of it but it does fit my PC gaming needs for now. It's noisy though and has it's faults but I going to 'downsize' next time as I do less gaming on PC.

I'm not sure if laptops, gaming or otherwise, are affected as much by the demand or component shortages. Will be interesting to see.

The problem with console gaming isn't the performance, which is fine. In fact exceptional for the price of admission.

The problem (for me) is the restrictive nature of the platform. You can only use approved accessories. Lack of support for many classes of device that just work with a Windows PC.

Heck, MS don't even let you plug in a USB sound card. And PS5 only lets you plug in a really old one.

Can only use approved storage devices.

Can only output to specific display resolutions (only 16:9). On PS5 only 1080p and 4k.

So it's absolutely great for those who want to play the "normal" way. But as soon as you want USB audio, or UW display res... forget it. Consoles just won't let you.

100% agree with your points.

FWIW the PS5 only works with USB Audio Class 1 devices. So only UAC1 compatible devices like the Soundblaster G6, G3 or Fiio E10K will work over USB with PS5. I currently run a Fiio K5 Pro for my PC audio which is hooked up to the Optical Out on my TV so use exactly the same headphones whether gaming on PC or console. It can be done, just harder with these new consoles.

Just to be clear I'm not anti-PC or anything. I love games on any and all platforms. But after a long period of very cheap component prices I think it's fair to say that over the last few years the value proposition has changed with PC gaming to the point where for a lot of people the most powerful box will now be a console. Consoles have always been cheaper, but it feels particularly like gaming PCs have become 'expensive' again. And the more 'mainstream' gamer who only wants to play Fortnite, Assassin's Creed or some other multiplatform release it isn't going to matter what and where they play it. I think that's a phase we are going into. Maybe that changes in few years. Who knows.

I'm just trying to convince myself to invest in a DAC/amp stack, which will be UAC2, so I'm a bit peeved about it :p

Also trying to find a decent UWQHD to pull the trigger on, and don't much fancy black bars on either side.

So it's effectively my problem. I'm moving from a "normal" 16:9 setup to a more niche one, and that's just not what consoles are all about.

With the UW 1440p display I'll be knowingly locking myself into PC gaming, really, and locking myself out of console gaming.

That's if I can find a monitor I think is worth the price, that is :p PC monitors suck for the most part :p

yeah saw that video and looked at those specs, hilarious

$1000 pc gets you, ryzen 3 quad core, 5700xt and an ancient sata ssd.

$500 console gets you a ryzen 7 eight core, 6700xt and a 5GB/s pcie 4 SSD

There's absolutely no doubt consoles are much better value for money. No doubt at all. Staggeringly so.

PC gaming is a masochists hobby, really :p

Serious questions should be asked by influencer's as to which of the following is true?

PC market with large profit margins. or consoles been sold at a big loss.

They claim they dont care if they stop getting free hardware, so they should show they have no fear of the hand that feeds them.
