On a track I’ve been in extraordinarily fast cars but what I would regard as fast on a track and a road would be different. On the road something doing 0-60 in less than 5s is fast. It is able to hit 100 in less than 10s then it is probably too fast for the road and I would categorise it as a license loser. In some ways a Tesla has redefined that for me. Insane acceleration for the road but runs out fairly soon after the national speed limit.

I'll let you off, wasn't sure if you'd be one of these people with a 320d that thinks it's that fast

I do find the limiting faction is traction, in the dry obviously it's easy, I'm finding I really have to ease off at certain junctions ATM as the roads can be greasy, and I find with autos, they're kind of a digital clutch, you can't 'feather' it like you can in a manual.Actually thinking about it more, I'll say that 5.5 seconds 0-60 is fast. That's what my car does (on paper - never tried it myself), and it's certainly fast enough to be fun, not to mention get me into trouble when I push it. I wouldn't mind looking at a mod or two to add a touch more power in the top 500rpm, but that's more for enjoyment (because it feels like it drops off a bit at the end) rather than any pressing need to smoke fools at the lights.

I did quite a few days a decade or so back at Crail and other places, best i ever managed was 13 dead at 113mph which to be honest it flipping quick even today.
Problem was the first 60ft, if you have ever driven a high power 200sx you will know - they dont get off the line very well
however once into 2nd and 3rd it was like a teleporter.

That's pretty much the same I got out of my Astra, about 13.2 @ 112mph. Off the line is rubbish but once it gets going it claws it back!

Thats a pretty good time and more importantly speed as thats what really tells you how quick it is.
Those results were with a home brew tune and about 280hp/320ft - i blew the engine up a wee while later (i bought RLTC and the spark cut damaged one of the valves and it went walkies in a bad way) so rebuilt it with forged everything 2871r 740cc injectors.
But i got bored of it and sold it on before it was finished as i had "grown out" of driving really fast like that.

There's a group of us that regularly did OCUK pod trips.
Got a work colleague that's been mid/high 8s @ 160ish in his Mk1 Fiesta, and a friend of his has a Mk2 escort that runs in the 7s
I went as quick as 12.80 111mph on the old MX5

Jesus 12.8 on a 5 must have had epic traction and ... well i know the 5s are light but 111Mph on the terminal needs some push behind it. I am lucky if i were to see 90 or 92 MPH on my 180ish bhp mk4.
Quarter miles are always about the launch, 4wd and your fast as **** - but look at the terminals to see the actual power of the car. Doing 12.5 seconds and 110 mph says lots of tractions but modestpower.
A 120Mph final and 12s time says mega power but i have a bit of trouble putting it all down.
I recon my old SX could have hit 120 terminal but it would have wheelspan half the way there lol.

Haha you recon my guess was that far off? I have no idea. I did a 14.88 in my Corolla T-Sport and the Volvo felt like warp speed in comparison. 0 - 60 in 5.3~ and 0 - 100 in 11.3~ whereas the Corolla did 0 - 60 in 6.4 and 0 - 100 in 15 (all according to speedo not GPS)

I was just asking if my guesstimate was that far off in their opinion.
I based it off the fact that the S60R does it in 14~ with +100KG in weight and AWD, with a similar amount of power.
If I lose my enthusiasm about old turdburgers what would be left...

It was a fairly slow 2.15 60ft, I think a good headwind accounted the trap speed it was usually a touch under 110

I'm not sure how super cars come in to this. A RS3 with a few bolt ons can run 2.9s to 60 and 0 to 100 in 6.xxs. The Rs3 is a regular hatch and hardly a super car

You can pick them up for around 35k with 2k of mods. A far cry from 50k.
