When will GPUs return to normal pricing....

Bitcoin can feel like a confidence trick but putting your money in Bitcoin might seem to some like a better bet than, say, keeping it in Sterling which is at the mercy of Brexit and the economic consequences of the pandemic.

It might seem to some that way, certainly, but itself it is at the mercy of the chinese government, and subject to systemic risks like Tether (who are under investigation by New York state for all sorts of things right now). "Safe" is one thing it's not.

If you like gambling though, I guess it's fine.

yep, certainly could have seeing as they're all one brand. I reckon they could all be "at it", manufacturers, distributors, middlemen, etc

All pny cards, it's hard enough to get a single card let alone 78 that just happen to be all the same brand so some dodgy **** is going on.

True, but it's implied those people are accounted for in the phrase "the insanity of capitalism".

;)
Well when you find a better alternative I'm sure the people of the world will thank you :) People are imperfect (understatement!) and unsurprisingly our systems are too (controlled by the same imperfect people as shown in the history of communism), it's definitely not changing anytime soon, if ever. Better to embrace it like Gibbo, he seems to be doing ok :p

A sobering thought is no fiat currency has ever lasted and we have the oldest current currency...

The value of Bitcoin fluctuates by thousands of pounds on a daily basis. Both upwards and downwards.

That is not a safe place to put your money. That's a gamble.

You can have capitalism without it's worst excesses.

Yeah, I've never quite understood this hero worship of Gibbo, but each to their own I guess...

:p

Indeed not sure why people have the strange idea it's that or communism for example there's loads of in-between options other that just capitalism.

The point being the systems aren't the issue it's the inherent failings in people's characters that mean that all systems are doomed to fail. Those constrained by them are actively working to subvert them constantly.

It's the knee-jerk defence system to any critisism of the status quo, 1) Insist the individual invents and implements a better system on their own or shuts up, 2) Insist the only altenative is something ludicrous (usually communism) 3) Everything is just human nature and therefore it can't be regulated or controlled. Which is ***** as govt's have no problem ensuring all the wealth flows upstream uninhibited, but facilitating some of that wealth to flow downstream is apparently nigh-on impossible, and detrimental to the economy or some-such useful nonsense.

We've already got "Socialsim for the rich"...

But anyway I'm veering dangerously OT.

:D

OT, but spot on :p

Seen gigabyte gaming oc 3070's on another page, they had 5 a few mins ago for £670, all sold out. And the 3070 vision £700, still some left. £200 over the founders which is far better built and still they sell.

That makes it good, volatile is good for making a profit.

But you have to be prepared to ride out bad periods though so not a good idea if you cannot afford to be without the money.

But put it this way. If the pound fluctuated like Bitcoin we'd be pretty screwed, aye? And these things are supposed to be the replacement for "evil" fiat :p

Pretty weird seeing uk stores put new stock online at 1:30am, though i'm not paying £630 for a tuf 3070.

Ed: all gone after 28 mins.

28 mins, wow you got early notice.

Seen a 3080 popup, instantly clicked checkout and "was" in basket, but hesitated as price was under £600, and thought this might be a scam, then decided to go ahead after about 20 seconds and it was gone. This was at 2.15am, so either bots or extremely low levels of stock.

So the question is why did you get alerts at 1.30am and i got at 2.13am? No wonder everything is already gone when I get alerts, as there must be some higher tiered private alert systems.

I was sitting downstairs looking through the alerts in the channel when it popped up, just happened to see it at the time. You can't type in those channels and I noticed someone was typing so knew a listing was about to show. The store must have got a dozen or so in for them to last that length of time, though plenty of emojis laughing at the price so presumably not many bit.

Ahh I see you said 3070, I am only watching 3080, might be why.

The £570 one I seen was an evga, and it said backplate at end of description which made me wonder if it was just a backplate been sold for that price.
