Most "normal" tyres should come with 8 - 9mm new. Talking everything from a LingLong GreenMax to a Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

The only ones I can think of that start off with less than 8mm are sticky tyres, for instance the Pilot Sport Cup 2 comes with around 6.5mm of tread new, and some semi slicks also start off with under 8mm.

It definitely varies. I've fitted 1000's of the bloody things

7-8mm is normal. Very very few come with more than 8mm,those are normally M&S tyres.

yeah probably more 7.5 - 8mm though I'd imagine? I think most I've had have been around that, and perhaps a few with a little bit more than that.

So I had to get a rear Eagle F1 replaced as there was a hole in the sidewall... Unsure how it happened but was flat when the wife got to work.

Been put this morning to get the new tyre fitted... Get back home and thought I would give the car a quick once over to get some of the grime off.

As I'm cleaning the other rear wheel I find this! It's only a little screw and unsure if it's even got through the tread... It wasn't bubbling. Question... Do I just leave it? Is it repairable?

I'm pretty peeved as these were only fitted in October and must have only covered 1000 miles at most!

Definitely don't leave it, it might look small but it's an issue that needs sorting. It looks like it might be in the area where it can be repaired though.

Thanks for the quick reply. Typically going into 4 days of shifts so will need to get it sorted nest week now. Will try and reduce the mileage as much as possible till I can get it repaired.

yeah £15 rips probably for plugging it, trust me, if you have a screw that's a good place to have it plus with it being a screw they hold pressure well as well unlike nails etc.

Never know, tyre place might take it out and find its not even gone through the tread block let alone through that whole tyre. Worst case though, its in this repairable zone

So managed to this fixed.

Fair play to Kwikfit as they are offering this service for free as we are NHS/Emergency Service Workers.

Can't ask for much more than that.

Two 255/35/19 MPS4S tyres fitted to the front £299.

Always nice to have 4 new shoes.

i didnt know marks and spencer's sold Tyres ?

FWIW - F1 autocentres frequently have very good deals on tyres. Managed to get a pair of 235/35/19 Michelin 4S tyres for £255 fitted
