Is it ok to be proud to be white?

There's a lot of fairly meaningless pride around.

Take, for example:

"I'm so proud of my mum/brother/sister/friend!"

You hear this fairly often. Pride in something somebody else has done and the pride-bearer potentially had no influence over.

I'd suggest that's not altogether different from pride in your town/county/country. It's all basking in reflected glory :p

"I'm proud of our NHS."

What does that mean, exactly? I like the NHS. I'm grateful for the NHS. How can I be proud of it, tho?
You've missed the point totally. What your siblings/friends/family have done either for others or for you is what you are proud of. What the NHS, a construct of human ingenuity, has done for you or your close family, you can be proud of.

Something you have zero influence/impact/affect on is where it gets odd.

But what if you had zero influence on what your siblings/friends/family did (re that specific act that you are proud of)?

It's quite likely that most of us will have had no influence on the work of the NHS.

So how is that missing the point? Surely it's the same? Pride in something you had no control over?

"We're all proud of Grandad. He was a war hero and won the Victoria Cross."

Now let's assume the person speaking wasn't even alive when that war was being fought.

Again, it's pride in something not of your doing and over which you had no control. Yet people often express that kind of example of pride.

Yeah I think the problem is you seem to mysteriously lack any understanding of basic English when posts refute your original dumb argument, weird that. It's almost like you're trying to gas light posters which is a tactic of the worst kinds of people by the way

I hate to resort to this kind of lame duck posting but ffs Google nationalism and its OED definition. Hopefully as such a patriot you'll accept their definition of the word.

Then talk about not understanding English or whatever garbage ass posting you're so desperate to do.

Us humans will always find something to nit pick about. Just be proud of who you are and not ashamed of whatever your skin colour is. The world is screwed up as it is, it is 2021 and people still need to make others feel ashamed of their skin colour.

It's just a belief in the Nation state, that is literally "Nationalism". It's not necessarily to the detriment or exclusion of others. I am a Nationalist because I believe Britain should govern itself and we should put the well being of our citizens first, which is what any nation that is opposed to us is doing. People have this weird disgust in the UK of being patriotic, they're like embarrassed and want to severely distance themselves from anything that could be viewed as even close to Nationalism, it's bizarre and unique to the UK.

What do you think about Scottish independence. Or NI joining Ireland? With relation to the UK that is.

I like the Northern Irish. Couldn't care less about the Scots, arrogant, miserable lot who can leave for all I care rather than stay in the UK whinging constantly.

Empathy - Google it. You can't share feelings with a colour or a shoe size.

Well now you're changing the goalposts. Before, you said it is odd when someone is proud of "Something you have zero influence/impact/affect on is where it gets odd."

Fair, but the topic is about skin colour. Another human falls into a different part of the equation as you an empathise with ones achievements. I get your point though.

I was expecting a more nuanced response. You haven’t even tried to answer my question. I find it strange you’re nationalistic yet have such disdain for your own people.

What a bizarre outburst you had at the end!

I think roar takes his football to seriously :p
Scottish independence failed due to football supporters which is hilarious tbh.
Chelsea supporter travelling up to Glasgow to cause a riot etc

Well the Scots clearly don't feel part of the UK or want to be part of the UK, so it's a pointless relationship. A lot of people in Northern Ireland want to be part of the UK and have a strong sense of unity with us, I don't really get the same impression regarding Scotland.

and why would we? The English conquered both lands with force and we had the chance to take out country back but noooo football supporters and religion, where most of them don't even go to Church/Chapel got in the way.

England and Scotland have been in a political union since 1707, wars between Scotland and England weren't a one way thing, the Union created a lasting peace between England and Scotland. Scotland has always had representation in Parliament and the first King of both lands was Scottish. People are acting like England marched an army in and forcibly occupied Scotland which simply isn't the case. Too many Scots thinking Brave Heart is an accurate and holistic view of British history.
