What film did you watch last night?

Stallone was ok as a reasonably comic accurate Dredd before he took the helmet off. After that, it was just another generic action hero story and not just because the helmet was off, but because it just wasn't Dredd.
You have to understand that Dredd stories aren't about his personal character progression. Dredd is Dredd and he is the law. He certainly doesn't kiss the girl at the end!

Urban was much more accurate to the earlier comics. His portrayal deserved to have something more like the visual world of the '95 film around him (apart from the terrible uniforms), but not it's story.

I think you need to be a fan and have a bit of knowledge of the source material to get the most out of these films. If you're not, I can understand why you might feel that way.

It actually sounds like this is what stopped you enjoying one of them. It was a bad movie once he'd took his helmet off... erm... okay? :) I get it, of course, I'm poking fun in some ways. As I think Kwango said, he's judging it as a movie, others are judging it on maybe how good an adaptation it is?

Where did I say that?
I said he wasn't Dredd anymore and gave reasons for that opinion. I didn't say it was a bad movie, I said it was a bad portrayal of the character after a certain point.
In fact, I saw it at the cinema when it came out (premier at Leicester Square Odeon, so full of Dredd fans) and the entire theater booed when the he took off the helmet...

I also didn't say I didn't enjoy it. In fact, it's a guilty pleasure movie for me. Almost everything apart from Dredd himself was good for a 90's 2000AD fan like me. The city itself was fantastic and the Angel gang and Mean Machine were damn near perfectly comic accurate for example.

As I think Kwango said, he's judging it as a movie, others are judging it on maybe how good an adaptation it is?
Yes, this is basically what I said in the quote you took from my post. Perhaps you should have taken note of the part directly after that you didn't quote:

Isn't that kind of my point? Unless you boo when you're enjoying something?

Yes, this is basically what I said in the quote you took from my post.

You see I said 'others'? As in, that wasn't directed at you, it was for the person that couldn't believe he thought one was a better movie than the other.

You seem intent on selectively ignoring what's actually being said in order to find an angle that suits your attempt at finding an argument.

Erm... okay? I said maybe it stopped you enjoying it, you point out it made people boo and I thought you were in that camp, which kind of made my point I thought, that was all. I don't particularly care myself, just thought it was an interesting point on what makes a movie good being different to if someone enjoys it or not.

Maybe lets just move on then :)

Godzilla Vs Kong, worst film I've seen in a while. Nonsensical story with massive plot holes, boring meh characters and forgettable fight scenes. 1/10 can I have the 2hrs of my life back please.

I mean, I kinda liked the Stallone one as a 13 year old boy...but have you watched it recently? Absolute Drokk!

Actually, yes I have. I watched both of them a couple of years ago, and I stick with my choice. As I said, I don't care about canon. I want to be entertained and Judge Dredd was far more entertaining than Dredd, in my opinion of course. I do remember 2000 AD fans slating it as soon as Stallone took his helmet off, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment in the slightest, and I didn't (and still don't) give a monkeys about how upset some people were. I enjoyed it, others didn't. Life goes on :)

Nah, let's rewind here and start with your original false statement on my behalf:
It actually sounds like this is what stopped you enjoying one of them. It was a bad movie once he'd took his helmet off... erm... okay? :)
First of all, thanks for the lovely passive aggressive touch to finish off your strawman argument. I especially like how you've used that same touch several times and think that adding a smiley face makes it nice and friendly

Anyway, I reply to that and tell you that I still enjoyed it and mentioned some of the stuff I thought was really good. In that same post, I mentioned the booing of one scene.
You then ignore all of that and respond only to the mention of the crowd booing one scene and somehow still think that it means I'm in the camp of those that didn't enjoy it and still seem to think that it makes your point, despite me specifically saying otherwise in that very same post in the parts you didn't quote...

Come on, man. I didn't enjoy what they did with Dredd, but I still had fun and this was made clear to you.

You see I said 'others'? As in, that wasn't directed at you, it was for the person that couldn't believe he thought one was a better movie than the other.
Hmm...
As I think Kwango said, he's judging it as a movie, others are judging it on maybe how good an adaptation it is?
Oh, you said "others". Well, despite it being in response to me and directly relating to the points in my original post regarding the differences in source material adaptation between the two films, I'm clearly an idiot for not realising you were obviously talking to someone else!

Anyway, my point (made clearly to start with) was that fans of the source material get more out of both films and generally prefer the newer version because it's far truer to the character. That is all.
Like I originally said, I can understand why someone who isn't familiar with it might prefer one over the other - or even think both are crap.

Are we clear now?

I didn't enjoy what they did with Dredd

And this was my only point. If the viewer didn't care about Dredd they might have enjoyed it more. The use of smilies was because it was only a small point that I don't even particularly care about that, as I said, I just found quite interesting in the discussion of if it was a good film or not brought on by a 'Dredd fans' amazement that someone could enjoy one more than the other. Clearly from your reactions you care a lot and my apologies if I've upset you, it honestly wasn't my intention, just thought it an interesting discussion for which I still feel I made a valid point, the enjoyment is not affected by the removal of his helmet in any way at all for someone that didn't know about Dredd, but clearly does for those that do. That was it.

:)

Killer Joe - 7/10

Watched as commented on recently. Erm, interesting movie... kinda odd... with a rather odd ending, but enjoyable enough.

Godzilla vs. Kong

Was pretty much what you'd expect, maybe a bit more interesting... though in a weeks time if you've asked me about movies I've watched recently I'll probably have entirely forgotten about it, didn't capture my attention much.

Prometheus and Covenant are awful they make no sense what so ever. I'll treat the Dark Horse comics as cannon way before the Ridley Scott sequels. Great director but shoddy story writer. JJ Abrahams (sp?) is the same.
Two of the most stupid and cretinous films I've ever seen. I've re-watched both purely to point and laugh.

Such a sad way to **** all over a much-loved franchise.

Erm... okay? :)

Yeah, no.
