30xx Series Founders Edition

Man, I remember it was pretty hard to get a GPU at the start of the year; I feel really sorry for people trying to get a fairly priced GPU now.
Yup. I highly overpaid for my 3080 founders card, paying £1000

I remember reading peoples comments that in a few months it would be worth a lot less, with the 3080 Ti coming to market. My 3080 had a quite a lot of use and could easily get £1500 for it now. Even CEX are offering £1,317.00!

Main thing to remember is when things go back to normal with GPU prices (however far that future is), to never shop and support (with your money) these shops which are scalping harder than eBay.

I never thought anything of Scam (competitor) before but damn this they grow on me during these times.

£2700. Is that correct?

£1400 is the founders price. What makes this £1300 more expensive exactly?

Its crazy how nVidia can ship a 3090FE for £1400 and make money on them yet the price has to nearly double for any other party to sell them yet from what I've gathered retailers/shippers/suppliers etc have to up the cost as apparently the money they make is very little.

I made a dumb joke/post a while ago that the prices of 3rd party cards will get so high it will proberly be cheeper to get a return flight and pick up a FE 3090 direct from the factory then pay 3rd party prices.

Surely every shop is 'scalping' when they sell a Nvidia 30XX card is is much more than the retail founders edition cost.
It's all supply and demand, demand is high and GPUs are in short supply. People will spend the money if they want something enough (even if its £3000 instead of £1000)

You probably can now. If Nvidia posted that you could walk into a factory (or queue) to get one in the most remote location of the world, i'm 90% sure there would be a queue from day 1

This is good to know, I checked the prices on this website, they are buying the RTX 3070 FE for £777 2nd hand! So, I will probably be able to upgrade (to next gen AMD / NV GPU) in a year or 2 and hopefully break even / make a profit! That is, if the next generation graphics cards don't have just as bad availability issues.

Crazy times.

That’s an assumption which may not be correct. The evidence suggests FE cards are sold at a loss or a tiny profit when you consider the ‘arms length cost’ of the components AIBs have to buy from Nvidia. Nvidia sell to AIBs because it makes them more money, if it didn’t, they wouldn’t do it. There is an opportunity cost of not selling to AIBs but that may be worth it e.g. marketing an lower RRP for review purposes.

But yes, a £2700 3090 is excessive, even if it is a potential record holding card.

Prices are daft, but thats supply and demand at its best..

Keep an eye on the deals pages on various sites, no doubt there are some cards that are being mined hard and will crop up at "used" at some point, especially as these places have the money to buy cards at a decent price in bulk, then mine on them, and still sell them used for more than they cost the supplier to buy and they've made money mining on them...

What Nvidia should have done is managed the scalpers by adding CAPTCHA to their site, 1 limit per customer, registering a card to one owner, photo ID requirement etc. Basically some form of making sure products were not purchased in bulk and re-sold so they are used by enthusiasts instead of dealers to make money.

Failing thay, they may aswell have tripled the RRP to start with

NVidia wanted to sell cards, they sold cards, whats the point in them doing anything other than that?

How about not wanting to annoy 95% of people who wanted to buy a card to use in their computer. No doubt they have lost a huge number of customers because of how they went about selling and the (very limited) quantity of cards they had availalble.

AMD should have cashed in on this. Had they released their own cards at a similar price/performance a few days later, i'm sure a vast number of people wanting an Nvidia card would have purchased an RX 6000 series card instead

The article I was reading the other day about shipping where Air Freight is still practically zero and shipping costs are crazy. So normally would cost £1000 for a container from China. When the pap hit the fan with the ports it went upto something like £15000 each its gone down now but its still around the £6000-£7000 mark. So scalpers are everywhere.

I believe i managed to get an FE 3090, just waiting for confirmation but the money is gone. I already have a Gigabyte eagle OC 3090 so will be selling the FE for what i paid. This is where i wish i had access to the MM but i guess i will find someone local or something that would like it. I would rather get back what i paid and for someone to enjoy it and not have to go through a scalper!

Begs the question, why buy one if you already have one? The person buying it from you will be deprived of a warranty.
