DLSS 2.0: why aren’t more people raving about it?

Interesting debate. Obviously you want a high end GPU And an OLED! As someone who has both (3090), if I had to choose an either or, it would be a tough decision for me for various reasons.

GPU horsepower is always more important... the difference between a 3060 and a 3080 is literally double the performance and that is worth far more than the upgrade from an LED to an OLED. A good LED IPS may not be up to OLED standards, but it still lets you see and experience the difference in visual fidelity and fps that a high end GPU provides.

If you have the correct settings for the TV and your nvidia control panel in terms of letting the TV do the scaling, you should be able to happily play at 1440p and not notice much if any drop in res., obviously it depends largely on the game and your viewing distance though.
Lots of "depends" there... obviously it's impacted running at 144p vs 4k. But if you are happy with that then all good.

Thats why everyone is different i couldn't think of anything worse than using a 55 inch screen for games

Nothing larger than 27 for me

Gaming on a 65" OLED from the comfort of an armchair is absolutely glorious. Due to the ergonomics I only do it with games that are good to play with a gamepad, which is mostly story-driven games that were designed with cross-platform versions in mind... but for those games it is just an amazing experience. Witcher 3, Tomb Raider, Control, Jedi Fallen Order, RDR2... it's just so much better and more immersive than sitting on a desk on my 27" LED. It can hardly be compared.

For anything needing a keyboard and mouse then I am at my desk on the 27".

Yeh i only use my monitor for work / games like diablo ( soon d2 remastered ). Everything else on my 65CX whether its my ps5 or my 2080.

Wish there were smaller oleds so i could replace my monitor as well but o well.

Or, if consoles get a DirectML upscaler, the GPCMR will go to console upscaling is bad, PC upscaling is the best thing since sliced bread!
(Never liked pre-sliced bread, so that idiom doesn't work for me anyhow.)
EDIT: mobile swype erorr: bad not based

Of course because dlss is hardware based and consoles/amd solution is software

Personally I have/'need' dual monitors as I find that superior for general usage and also work, so I've got a 27" 1440p monitor for my main/gaming monitor which works fine, but can't imagine having a 49" main monitor in this setup :p
I'm a dual 24" 1080p user for productivity. For gaming the second screen is more of a distractins unless gaming while reading a guide.
Have considered 43"/45"/49" 4K TVs but would really need proper local diming as I can only imagine using the lower part of the 4K like I currently use my 2x1080p as otherwise the eyes would get tired from too much vertical movement. At most, of the 2160p, I could see myself regularly using maybe 1440p or maybe 1600p with the rest at the top for other things to glance at. Or turned off. The rest in this case would be around 720p or 560p.
This would require custom snap-to macros with AutoHotkeys or similar (I wrote a quick proof-of-concept snap to macro a while back and that was easy enough).
Unsure if I could get used to but it wouldn't be too dissimilar as fincial traders and their top peripheral screens.
OLED would appeal due to the perfect local diming if the top part isn't being used.

I found 1440p plenty for a 55" inch screen when sat back on the sofa.

After I got the 3080 and started playing 4k on the 55" I noticed that I had to get about 3 feet from the TV to see all the details and textures.
For me and the way I play laid down on sofa the 55" wasn't big enough to fully appreciate all the finer details and textures of 4k.

That's why I upgraded to the 65", so I could see all the details and textures, it looked crazy big at first but now I feel it's just right. Been doing 10 hours a day playing red dead online, so fun now.

DLSS is great, call of duty is solid 120fps 4k max settings and crazy fast for some online fun. (No raytracing).

I can't use the performance DLSS though to me it looks worse than just playing at lower resolutions, I use quality or balance.

Performance needs some more optimisation at resolutions above 4K, I don't think its designed /tested for it yet. The anti-aliasing doesn't always work as well as native 4K, or 4K + DLSS performance mode.

Chernobylite has just been updated with DLSS support, users on Reddit indicate superb image quality

Quick benchmark below with a rtx3070

looking at 40 to 50% performance improvements

Whatever happend to DLSS 3.0? Was it just a rumour or is it something nvidia are saving up incase AMD take the lead, was a lot of talk about it last year but alas we are still on 2.0

I think we will see the next version DLSS maybe when AMD releases their competing upscaling tech. Nvidia has mostly been focusing on adding integration of DLSS 2.0 to popular game engines such as UE 4+5 and Unity, since the release of 2.0. Because of this, I think it could take years for AMD's tech to reach similar levels of support in games.

NV hasn't mentioned any specific areas of improvement for future versions yet. Maybe this could include improved (both smoother and less blurry) antialiasing (particularly with lower internal resolutions) and inbuilt support /higher quality for DLSS at 16m/33m pixels (such as 8k) resolutions.

A higher quality preset than 'Quality' mode would be welcome, perhaps with an internal resolution of 90/100%, designed to look better than native resolutions.

As for speed/ performance, not sure how much room for optimization is left. Probably the most important thing is to keep adding DLSS support to the latest games, perhaps offering greater incentives to game devs to add the technology.

Maybe AMD will be able to catch up if most / all future console games add native support for the AMD's tech, and these games can be easily ported to PC?

A nice boost to minimum framerates :)

EDIT - it's in early access, but due for release in July 2021 (apparently, you get free dlc if you buy in early access). I'll wait

Yeah it's been on my steam watchlist for a while now, but I refuse to pay money for early access game so I'll buy it when its out

buy day be4 release for free dlc + discount ;)

I tend to wait for reviews, though.

It's on GOG too, I always buy on that if possible because of the freedom it gives you and ease of game installs.

I can't be the only one buying titles that I wouldn't normally buy just to play with RT and DLSS. What more incentive to developers/publishers require? :)

What is good to see is since unreal engine was updated with the dlss plugin, we are seeing more early access games and even demos shipping with dlss - that's because it's simply super easy to do now, dlss can be added to any new unreal engine game within a few hours

Yes and we will see this with other engines too. DLSS will gain a lot of importance this year to increase performance of lower end and mobility cards.

Most people could care less about RT don't know about DLSS but in warzone it causes issues with latency so mehh

Also dont forgot most people play at 1080p
