Crypto miners could soon flood eBay with cheap CPUs, motherboards and SSDs

These discussions would be simpler if we just stop calling gamers that mine on the side with one card as "miners". I occasionally go for a swim, but I would never label myself a swimmer, for example, and a kick about in the park is not the same as being a footballer.
Very well put.
more rubbish
No it’s not rubbish and if you knew what you were actually talking about you’d realise it. But as is usual with virtually every topic you post about you seem to think you’re an expert on it but more often than not post utter tripe and dare I saw it, rubbish. I’m sure there’s a bit of irony in there somewhere.

Ah, another one of your good old ‘a mate of mine.....’ nonsense anecdotes. Not sure whether you’re Walter Mitty or Jay from The Inbetweeners.

S!

:D

rubbish. miners don't have an infinite supply of energy.

there is only so much their circuit or phase can take.

so yes flood the market means everyone can get one if you could flood the market. or are you saying someone is going to have 30,000 gpu's running in residential accomodation?

The mining operations in China are using more energy than the entire country of Argentina - and the Chinese government, whilst making noise isnt putting a stop to it. Why? They make money.

I'm not saying that, miners ain't the issue. The fact that mining exists is what's causing the price/shortage issues to exist. Miners aren't the issue, why should anyone miss out on making money just because it's causing a shortage to someone else. It's like blaming a coal miner for the shortage of a pickaxe - albeit massively different as if were mining coal - we probably need it. Mining coins on the other hand - do we.
How many containers of toilet roll did you buy during the first lockdown? Why should anyone miss out on making money even if it causes a shortage to someone else? Right? :D

You do realise Chinese miners are using ASIC right? Not gaming GPUs.

Or do you not understand anything about mining?

Have you checked CEX? They'll give up to £1,700 cash for a 3080, depending on the model. Way less hassle than eBay too.

Unfortunately my card is a Dell OEM version. It is a reference board design but with a shorter cooler unit to fit in the ludicrously bad Alienware cases. As such it doesn’t have a retail box or align with any retail card (but MSI is the most likely producer of the card).

GPUs aren't a necessity though, defiently more of a luxury item than toilet roll! ;)

Easy solution. Retailers should be selling them at market value. This whole 'get in line to buy something £500 less than you can immediately sell it for' is ridiculous.

so just go all in and accept the scalper prices as normal? doubt amd, nv or OcUK would say no to that solution :p

Scalper prices? No - markert value. If retailers sell for what they're really worth, there won't be such a thing as scalpers.

Did you miss the 'if'?

Will all the cards sell if they put 6700XT's up for sale at £1700? (is that the going scalper price?)

No , didnt miss an `if` at all - when GT 710`s are selling for £80, thanks to many factors , demand vs supply being only 1 , then yes £1700 for 6700 class card would be in that realm.
