It's too hot :(

Got aircon being fitted in the house today and my office (back of the garage conversion), been fighting the urge for years but I finally caved. The last hot spell we had broke me as I barely got any sleep, and that's not even as hot as it will likely get this year.

It’s been worth every penny. Those hot 30C plus days last year weren’t noticeable when the house was a steady 22C. Like you say, it’s excellent at night. My gaming room and guest bedroom are the last two that will finish the house (my gaming room gets uncomfortable on any day over 20C or so outside). It’s quite handy in the winter for a quick boost of heat too. I don’t mind training in the heat outside either when I know I can quickly cool down after.

So far one of the worst summers I can remember. Most of the time it is uncomfortable weather either warmish but stale and stagnant feeling or a little cooler but with those kind of humid showery days which just leave you feeling yuck. Interspersed with some actual cold for this time of year and the occasional few hours of pleasant sunshine.

Finally starting summer here in northern Sweden.
Probably gonna be hitting 30oC today.
Too hot for me. I hope it doesn't last too long before a change.

Late 30's and I can honestly say in the UK this year has been the worst weather I can ever remember.

Its been **** all year, first few months cold and dry, then wet, then literally a week and a half of good weather, now rubbish again.

Spare a thought for those living in the East and South East, apart from the odd rare day of nice weather. It's been cloudy, damp to wet and windy coming off the North Sea. And yes once of the worst Summers I can remember too, and more crap weather this week

I've been in Southampton for ~29 years and I'm struggling to remember a wetter spring and early summer, so far it's reminding me of the summer of '85 or '86 from when I lived in Wirral in my teens, the weather I tried to escape by staying down here after uni. The really annoying thing for me is the frequency of wet days on my days off is stupid this year, our flat feels like a prison when not at work, I've managed far less outdoor cycle rides to around the South Downs this year compared to the previous four summers and I'm still relying on Zwift plus my turbo trainer.

On the flip side, my mum is loving the mostly warm dry weather on the North Wales coast for the second summer running, having wondered what she had let herself in for when it seemed to rain everyday when she moved there in late summer '19.

Back in 90s, there was a definite temperature divide between Southampton and Wirral, typically enough to be the difference of an extra layer of upper body clothing (approx 3C or so). These days the difference seems to be often minimal.

Kinda hoping the weather doesn't improve too much now. I'll be very ****** off if I've endured the crap so far only for it to swing the other way while I'm isolating for the next 10 days.

I don't live a huge distance away from you; somewhere in-between Southampton and your bitter rivals ;) and, while there has been some rain, there's still been plenty of dry & sunny days. I just think people like to over exaggerate ("worst Summer evahh!!!!!" blah blah) or just have really short memories :p

I spent 6 hours getting the garden under control, it's been too hot all week and I haven't had time previously (or it rained :p).

I started early and took a break early afternoon to avoid the worst of it but I still over did the sun. At least it's done in time for another two weeks of it being too wet, and just it all growing back like a wild meadow again.

Hammering it down and a terrible forecast today so planning to head down to Feock area to escape the worst and have a mooch, I struggle to stay in tbh

Gosport here, I think you are spot on ;)

I think I’m a bit contrary in that I think we have a great climate in the UK, especially in the north. It’s not normally too hot, and it never really gets too cold. (Arguably the winters can be a bit harsh in the North compared to the South, but the South has too much humidity for the temperature in summer). Much of the world is way, way too hot for much of the year, then bitterly cold in winter, with a brief sweet-spot in spring and autumn.

I’d have Aircon fitted if I lived in the south, but in Northern England, it’s rare that we have more than the odd night where it’s too hot to sleep. (Helps that I live in a quiet suburb so can open he windows. If I lived in a flat in a city, again I’d probably need aircon, even in the north).

(Actually, the ideal climates are the high desert and ocean moderated climates like they have in parts of the SW US - blue skies, but low humidity and temperatures in the low 20s, but given the choice of northern England or the tropics/much of the Mediterranean, I’d take the UK ).
