Yea indeed, the cost doesn't put me off its just down to my own inexperience with sim racing. I didn't know how involving it was until recently which has sparked my curiosity.

I'm not the fastest but as long as I have a clean race, don't knock anyone off the track and have fun I'm happy! More races you have the quicker your SA will go up.
@swannyUK thanks for the heads up, gave the Bentley a go on sliverstone and got a 2.04.9 straight off. Took a day or 2 to get that with the ferrari evo! Seems a lot slower but actually get better times

Race Department is well established, a legit site run by professionals and long standing well intentioned enthusiasts. The site is a sort of meca for creators, most things (legal) get hosted on the site and are available as free downloads.
The premium service they offer entitles you to join up with their organised races, and a number of other entitlements. What is (or was) a good sense of friendly community when joining up on races, on voice coms they're a nice bunch. I sub myself, and if for nothing else 13 odd quid a year for the unlimited content they host is fair recompense.
SimGP is home to a number of different organisations that offer free membership of their various racing series. Even if you do or don't go with RD id recommend joining one, i've noticed over the last week online that there's a ton of new players, you'll find your level easily.

I actually went to create an account with RD last night... Turns out I created one back in 2011...
I guess racing within these communities will be a lot better than public servers, next time I'm on ill probably sub and try it out
It'll come back and with time you'll be consistent.

A little update on those Turn1 liveries I posted a little while ago.
I didn't make this video.
Anyway, Turn1 has recently partnered with SimracingGP, so some of you can expect to be racing against some of these.

So im back simracing with a new wheel and getting back into ACC.
I play all the sims but for a bit of online racing its ACC for now.
Problem is for all my years simracing im terrible at setups so im finding myself 2-3 seconds a lap behind the quick guys and even more behind the likes of tier 1 AOC guys but those guys are al aliens.
I dont want to go down the rabbit hole of buying setups so would appreciate where one could get some decent ones.

you cant find decent ones without paying in either ACC or iracing. Setups in ACC that you do find will likely be out of date, +the recent toe drama will no doubt see a hotfix soon which will also mess up any current setups.

The aggressive preset is more than good enough for 99% of drivers. I know as I bought the CDA setup bundle for the Porsche when it first came out. The difference was very marginal, more time to be gained by improving my driving (for ref. my current pace rating is 87).
The most important aspect is getting your tyres in the right operating window, pressures need to be around 27.6 PSI for the slicks and 29-30 PSI for wets. Play around with brake duct cooling and cold pressures to achieve this. Do this against a baseline ambient/track temp and then know what adjustments to make depending on how much hotter or colder it is come race day. For car balance 1 or 2 clicks on the rear ride height is usually all you need.
Only if you can consistently get within 1% of the top time on the special event leader boards would I bother going down the Motec rabbit hole.

How do I get off public servers? Had 4 maybe 5 races tonight cut short by mid pack pile ups witin the first few corners. I'm by no means fast, usually come mid table but i've only been playing on and off for a month and public servers are getting a bit annoying now.
