Dying Light 2 PC Tech Review

Yeah in these slanging matches they forget 6900xt is first gen RT whereas 3xxx cards are 2nd gen.

Good point. We should all support AMD for making a first gen RT card that has half the performance of Nvidia's, while also lacking any hardware support for AI

Jokes aside, RDNA2 is a console chip designed for console power requirements and cost. I just hope AMD get their act together for RDNA3 otherwise we could see Intel push them in to 3rd place.

"I bought the 6900XT to play games with ray tracing on, the performance is much on part to Nvidia just this is 1st gen AMD RT vs Nvidia 2nd gen RT, so half the performance, I feel this is worth it, sure my frames are cut in half but I'm supporting AMD and the equivalent performance is very similar"

That would be a valid point if amd came out with rdna 2 a year before ampere did but it didn't.

Right here and now, one set of cards provide a superior advantage where said feature is "usable" and the other side isn't, no 2 ways about it.

Some of you just sprout meaningless buzzwords and phrases which would even make Apple superfans blush, and I thought some of them were bad enough(and mocked by PCMR).

We're descending into madness again lol, it's one title with some RT settings maxed out. Yes it looks better with it on and the performance is there on one side but it's not exactly a selling point for a £1500 card.

They need to find ways to justify a £1500 card - its no different than someone buying a £1000+ Apple or Samsung smartphone and dunking on cheaper ones, then argueing what overpriced smartphone is better instead of being happy they have an expensive piece of electronics!

In the end for 99% of most people it really has no realworld effect.

True, the fact I went from 5700xt > 3060ti > 3070 > 3080FE > 6900xt would probably get the same derisory comments as my last post. I`m really bothered about one game that the 6900xt "doesnt perform well in RT" which I might not even buy. Oooohhh am I bovvered ? :) Apart from the 5700xt I've been green for the last 10-15 years or so with the odd AMD blip. I just wanted to go all AMD this time round and I`m very happy.

"Bare-bones"?

AMD's new architecture brought their rasterization performance in line with the competition, but it'll take a while for other features to mature (in more than just gaming).

Yeah in these slanging matches they forget 6900xt is first gen RT whereas 3xxx cards are 2nd gen.

I mean, that's pretty relevant to the point...it's AMDs first attempt at RT and nobody expected it to be as good as or better than NVIDIA, who've already had a generation to build on.

This is true, software has moved forward, hopefully AMD don't put all their chips (pun intended) in the raster boat next gen.

Look at what DL1 looked like back in 2013's announcement walkthrough...

lol thats quite bad by todays standards. the indoor lighting looks wack, outdoor is a bit better, but the overall image is weird - way too much contrast, way too much sunflare, too much aliasing, lots of low res textures

Not sure if you watched the same video :p

Bare in mind that is a 720p video from years ago with crap compression compared to the AV1 content we have in today's YouTube. The ambience and particle effects in that demo look more dense than what the actual game had and also more than what DL2's E3 demo showed of the latest game too.

Video compression or age has nothing to do with what I'm looking at, its the source content thats the problem

Example 1: Fake overly vivid shadows, this is a single example but throughout the video there are these exaggerated dark, overly sharpened fake shadows. Even in rastered AAA games today, these shadows would be classified as Low or Medium quality at best. High quality shadows should look far more diffused and not as dark, ray traced shadows would be a whole other ballgame.

Example 2: Low quality assets and textures throughout this indoor room, and wtf is going on with the shadowing on the cupboard in the corner - I don't even know what to say about this, its total puke - again extremely over exaggerated and fake.

Example 3:

These 10 Billion nit godrays are ridiculous, its as if God himself has descended from the heavens - the video is full of this type of sunflares

In terms of a technical demonstration their video was perfectly on point. The ifnal game was actually fine in those circled areas. I think your argument was off point to be fair lol.

Yeah, the RT looks pretty underwhelming again, certainly not worth all the fuss and hype it gets.
