NATO should now just fast track anyone wishing to join with a temporary membership until fully admitted .

As for Sweden and Finland, they've had since 1949 to join NATO, they chose not to join a collective security organisation.

The problem with an EU army is that the Ukraine isn't a member of the EU, despite them wanting to become a member. The same with Nato. They tried to join that organisation too.

There is a lot of fake concern with some of the western leaders as they could have helped Ukraine out years ago.

We weren't in WW2 either. The US entered to aid it's allies and for it's own interests.

Personally I don't think its the worst idea in the world. We could use a but of manning up all this LGBT stuff aint going to work if it gets ugly. We have become weak over time.

I think like covid pre March 2020, looking at the new thinking, that'll never happen to us, and look what happened.

I am not saying it'll kick off, I highly doubt it, BUT....I'd rather be a bit more ready them seemly doing nothing. Maybe I am wrong about that, I actually hope so.

Putin now calling for regime change in Ukraine via military coup as a condition of peace talks.

Russian troops have entered Kyiv from the north, Ukraine's Defense Ministry said on Friday, as fighting took place on the city's northern outskirts and gunfire could be heard from the central government district.

The latest: Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the Ukrainian military to overthrow the government and "take power into your own hands" — explicitly demanding regime change as a precondition for peace talks.

"It seems that it will be easier for us to come to an agreement than with this gang of drug addicts and neo-Nazis, who occupied Kyiv and took the entire Ukrainian people hostage," Putin said before a meeting of Russia's Security Council.

The Kremlin said earlier it's prepared to send a delegation to Minsk to meet with Ukrainian officials to discuss a peace agreement based on "demilitarization" and neutral status for Ukraine.

A Pentagon official told reporters Friday: "The Russians have lost a little bit of their momentum. No population centers have been taken. Russia has yet to achieve air superiority." The official cautioned that Russia could still deploy additional forces and overwhelm Ukraine.

Armies need supply lines, and they need places to retreat to if they get beaten back.

Considering the speed with which Putin's reached Kiev, I doubt supply will be a problem. He has the numbers, and Ukrainian resistance so far has been pretty weak, so he can just keep rolling forces into Ukraine.

Adfmittedly, that's just my uneducated guess. Time will tell.
