Because of Russian money.

Exactly, and now that Russian money is basically worthless, things should /hopefully/ be dramatically different - Although everyone is understandably on tiptoes about it.

It seems like the first point of action has to be from the Russian people themselves. They need to rise up and revolt against the government, which many already are. So a step in the right direction. The Kremlin cannot handle both domestic and international issues at the same time, they can't even invade Ukraine properly if what's happened the last week+ is anything to go by. I would not be surprised if all the cool modern military tech as either just for show or they basically sold stuff to further bolster Russian billionaire pockets etc.

Will the world continue to watch as Russia brings the war to nuclear power stations? I expect the UN to continue to be useless.

But the world is not merely watching. Western nations are flooding Ukraine with money and weapons, while crippling Russia's economy with sanctions.

Tiny neo-Nazi paramilitary group makes grandiose and completely unverified claims about its alleged role in the Euromaidan protest.

This is like the BNP claiming responsibility for victory in the Battle of Britain. Utterly laughable.
We’ve had the taliban and others claim responsibility for events that we’ve taken very seriously or when it suits our agenda.

That nuclear power plant fight looks like lead vehicle was hit by RPG fire and troops bailed out of it but one was on fire.

Also some gory stuff coming from Hozomel this morning the Russians took a battering.

Quite sad that they was probably very young sent to there death with little experience.

Also, can you imagine OcUK forums being strategic command for a future war? :D

HEADRAT must not have any decision making powers! :cry:

Notice how the russian shill hasn't had anything to say about Russia sending in the neo-nazi Wagner group to Ukraine?

I can’t see the Russians going back and doing it again. They was apparently helping to put the fire out by the end of it. Russia itself has nothing to gain from this. Hopefully an exclusion zone will be setup.
well one way to make Ukraine a neutral zone would be blow up the power plants.....job done....think he is mad enough to do it as well

Because the entire Tory party is owned by Russian oligarchs.

It wasn't just the Tory party though, was it? Merkel, Trump, a gamut of Eastern Europe leaders, etc., etc. The view that the best thing to do with Russia was to enmesh their economy into the global economy so that they would never risk war was widespread, and honestly without hindsight it wasn't a terrible view, but that should have ended in 2014. The West's failure to act decisively as Russia invaded its neighbour and carried out assassination in our countries was a massive mistake.

Why wasn't more done to destabilise Putin after the Salisbury poisonings, the downing of MH17, the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, to name just a few of his state sponsored atrocities.

Yep they have have a lot of previous history didnt the Salisbury cost a policeman his job?

Its hindsight now but could sanctions not have been put on when Russia amassed a huge army to the border?

I also say that Ukraine should have been emergency put in to Nato along time ago despite the annexed problems, people say they would have gone elsewhere but Im not so sure.

Putin is now the Jeffrey Epstein of World Politics, the friend you wish you never met/had!

I can only hope that Putin ends up 'committing suicide'! ;):cry::D

* name six
* so what?

I don't know which is worse, your bothsidesism, or your whataboutism.

Quelle surprise! :p

For sure, the widespread view that capitalism would civilise and defang Russia was badly misguided.

If the UK got fully onboard with exploiting the North Sea reserves & shale gas on land with a bit of nationalisation/ring-fencing for domestic supply thrown on top, is it possible we could be self sufficient?
I'm sure I remember reading that just UK mainland shale could provide 100% of anticipated domestic gas/proportion of electricity demand for 10+ years.

Basically enough to bridge the gap between *now* & whatever clean energy revolution awaits in the future.

Thought we were already self sufficient in gas? Its just its owned by private companies and is a world market so even if we had shale gas, it would still be sold to the British public at world gas prices.

Its not a shortage of gas which is forcing people to chose between food and heating.

Yes, they are **** scared of Putin, currently we're not the Country under attack, Ukraine could be 'gone' in a number of weeks and Putin will be emboldened (again)

It's fairly clear that Russia has engineered itself to be engrained in capitalism through oil and gas, so much so that they're virtually untouchable. Similarly, China has done the same thing with manufactured goods. One hopes that Xi doesn't end up in the same mental state as Stalin, Hitler, Putin etc... I also hope that the current situation is a wake up call to Western leaders that reliance on global trade is dangerous and that domestic self-sufficiency is more important than ever.
