It's very common for military snipers to use old tried and tested rifle designs, the original ones may have entered service in the 19th century but they were still being produced/improved until the 70's. By comparison the two main sniper rifles the US use are both variants of a rifle from 1948 and their main marksman rifle is from the 1950s.

Yes, the T-80BMV is Russia's best tank currently in service (so excluding both of the T-14s :p), however they only have 100-150 of them.

It is interesting if you watch some of the ex US or UK snipers, etc. who do videos on YT - they often cite what most people would consider a fairly average/dated rifle as their favourite tool for getting the job done - often because it is uncomplicated and excels at a specific function even when maybe has its flaws in other areas.

Interesting thin is that Gerassimov was a Tatar (like Boris Yeltsin) so basically he is descended from the people Stalin forcibly relocated from Crimea to other parts of Russia.

Which effectively means he died fighting for the country that persecuted/genocided his grandparents generation, in a war to conquer the country where his ancestral homeland is, most bizarre situation.

This is what I was saying other day but got called a Tory basher ... I was trying to highlight what is going on and the lies we are all told and still being told by this government. Again I don't care about party politics before the name throwing again, I just care who our government is at the time and doing the right things for its citizens and in matters like this in the world in all our names.

It would be easier to list what the war isn't about :( but ultimately it seems to boil down to megalomania on the part of Putin and those closest to him.

The real truth of it is mired in many levels of complicated geopolitics and history to be honest.
 
Just heard, the reason the FSB guy had to tell his boss about the General's death over an unsecured phone line is because Russia have been taking out the cell towers in Ukraine to cut their communications but the Russia secure comms system requires 3G/4G in order to function xD

How can they be this comically bad? is this 4D chess to convince NATO to disband because Russia is so useless? xD

It is curious - I'd imagine their mobile Topol-M setup isn't just for show and appears to get regular maintenance and investment - but who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of their fixed installations have basically rotted away with money siphoned off and warheads not properly maintained.
