Leclerc is driving well, car is both fast and reliable. At this point the championship is on. Will probably run well at Imola. Got to expect Merc to to improve the car significantly so I'm expecting the 2nd half of the season to be characterised by Merc chasing down Ferrari but ultimately failing. Red Bull third by year end.

Here you go, complete with diagrams of what’s acceptable and what isn’t.

Thanks. That’s definitely the Verstappen rule then :p Now if he’s still challenging Leclerc towards the end of the season and it gets a bit fighty, hopefully they’ll clamp down on his other suspicious tactics too like running people off the road and calling it an overtake!

Gosh I hope Merc can come up with an extra bit of pace and challenge that Ferrari!

OK GP.
Sainz looked absolutely desperate in that GP.
Looks. Like he'll be playing number 2 now.

Ferrari and Leclerc blown the rest away today.

Decent from Mercedes.

Not much else to say. Terrible weekend for Aston

After a lucky season, he's finding out what it's like to be racing against a significantly better driver. I wonder what excuses he has been making to himself since his first season vs. Max?

The ominous thing is that Ferrari are saying they've had their engine turned down so far. Could be in a league of their own at Imola if they turn up the wick.

Terrible weekend for Aston

They seem totally lost. After that bright season - pre rebrand - they just don't seem to know what to do. Meanwhile, Stroll seems to be getting worse not better. Those bright spots that have given hope have been few and far between since Sakhir 2020. I'll give Vettel a pass coming back from Covid having missed 2 races, but he needs to get his house in order come Imola.

As I understand Sainz quali laps were made more difficult with the red flag then his car not starting. Prior to the race they were forced to change his steering wheel as the switches had problems so they changed it on the starting grid a minute before the formation lap. At the start the anti-stall kicked in for no reason so he was under pressure to try and recover which led to the error in pushing cold tyres too hard...

He has plenty of excuses this weekend. I don't think any of them justify the mess he made of it, but even if they did, he'd still have been clearly unable to match Leclerc in Bahrain and Jeddah. Sainz, like Bottas, is a perfectly good second driver and up against ordinary opposition he'll can look good but put him in the same car as one of the truly top tier drivers and he's lost.

You know, thinking about this part of the race:

I'm pretty sure that George could have beaten Pérez today, he had the chops to keep Pérez behind him, and it was surely hurting the Red Bull's tyres more than the Mercedes. I think the only question is whether they'd have both wrecked their tyres enough to let Hamilton pass.

Am I allowed to say Verstappen retirement oh dear what a shame. I do hope these failures on his car continue. He seems quite sanguine about it at the moment but if it carries on it'll be popcorn time.

Meh. Wouldn't you rather watch him beaten on track?

Came in to this thread hoping to read comments about how good McLaren and Russell were but expecting the obsessives to go on about Verstappen instead, colour me surprised.

Think I'll use Twitter in future to read about races when I miss one.

Happily surprised to see McLaren back up there.

RBR need to sort that car out ASAP if they want to contend. Ferrari are running away with it.
