Erdogan's insane monetary policies is already harming Turkey's economy to the extent that joining sanctions probably would kill it outright, so he's either proven he knows his policy is dumb or they think the value of playing both sides is worth more than being able to shift the blame to Western pressure for his own economic malice.

I remember during the 2008 war between Russia and Georgia that Georgia was in possession of a brand shiny new Rafael SPYDER air defence system that they’d just had delivered from Israel, so new infact that the Georgians had nobody trained to operate it at that point, and possibly hadn’t even take delivery of any live Python and Derby missiles for it yet. However, when the Georgians fired up the SPYDER’s fire control radar for the first time, and the Russian’s radar warning receivers caught a sniff of it, they **** bricks, cleared the air space around Tbilisi and stayed out of it for the rest of the war, despite the fact that they’d been running rampant, almost completely unchallenged up to that point.

The Russian Airforce really seem to struggle with SEAD/DEAD, even against systems developed during Soviet times like Buk, Tor and S-300 that they should be more than familiar with and know how to defeat, so facing something unknown to them like NASAMS or SPYDER for instance must have a big fear factor for them.

Right...but this is distinctly a "hurt us more than it hurts them" moment. Everyone can transparently see it was artificial reasons behind the failure to pay...

It is very odd, isn't it?

When you consider many countries still actively trade commodities with Russia, it looks even stranger.

To be fair, this does significant damage to russia's long-term economic prospects. It is the equivalent of an old CCJ when you are trying gti get a mortgage five years later.
