Tax cuts are popular. The Tories are somewhat unpopular. The Tories wouldn't give a single **** if the country had to burn in order for them to retain power.

Deregulating banking bonuses will increase taxes brought in. Will they compensate for the reduced tax revenue from tax cuts? I have no idea but they will certainly be better than tax cuts and no extra revenue.

It is plainly obvious this is the death throes of the Tory party. Trying to hand as much money as they can to their donors while the country burns around them.

Without commenting so much on the rights and wrongs, how much would all bankers bonuses actually equate to in tax revenue? Is the government gonna earn big from this?

I would guess the types of roles that are eligible for the bonuses that we're talking about would be in the 40 / 45% tax bracket.

It was saying on the radio it would be absolutely massive. Let's face it, other than the financial sector, we do bugger all else.

Nonsense. Whether they get remunerated through salary or bonus makes zero difference to the tax take, and even if a few hundred big cheeses in the city get a slightly bigger package its an absolutely miniscule sum to the treasury.

It's nothing more than scratching the back of their chums while they still can.

The problem is that millions of English voters will STILL vote tory at the next election, there just seems to be a subsection of society that likes to bow and scrape at the feet of their betters.

Not next time they won't. Some older people might still vote for them. I will be voting for giant phallus scrawled on my ballot.

Meanwhile in Sweden...
Yeah I know I voted for a centre right party. So I'm pleased.
Pro nuclear, pro NATO. Pro tax cuts... controlled immigration. Tougher punishment for crime. The only sensible choice.
I voted red for local government because they spend wiser.
8 years of left coalition and it's gotten worse, time to flip to the otherside, much like the UK will too.

Finland have had a pretty right leaning party come up from damn near nowhere to gain a substantial footing. It's expected they'll make further substantial inroads in the coming months as the Finns realise rampant immigration has caused them far more grief than benefits.

Italy also look like moving right although previous incarnations, Mussolini and Berlusconi, neither covered themselves in glory. Perhaps it is the implementation that needs improving. Less orgy more policy.
