BMW and M Power Owners

When I was looking at 4 series Gran coupes I test drove a 420i and it felt no faster than my previous Mk 3 Focus 182 Ecoboost. Not surprising as although they have around 190HP there’s easily another 200-300lbs to carry. That’s why I looked for a 428i instead.

I started a thread on my ownership, search for Bavarian and it will show up.

My go-to options are: m-sport pack (m-sport brakes/HK sound), adaptive headlights, adaptive suspension and HUD.
Heated steering, 360 cams and adaptive cc are nice-to-haves.

The xDrive on the F series cars only have the SE suspension setup, you can get lowering springs to bring it back down to the same ride height. If you can get one with adaptive suspension it helps stiffen it up slightly but still not near full M Sport suspension stiffness.

I'd drive both as there are plus/minus with each. My main annoyance with x30d is the low down throttle response is poor with a fair amount of lag if you catch it at the wrong revs the x35d doesn't have this due to the additional small turbo. (The G series cars now have a high voltage hybrid system that removes this lag from the single turbo 3 litre diesels)

I didn't find a 335d with adaptive suspension that bad as the ride was far better than a M Sport car you do trade off the sharper handling that the adaptive suspension will never bring on with the SE suspension. I'd guess you'd need to put the M Sport anti roll bars on to bring it close once on the lowering springs.

You should also try a 340i that would be my pick, superb engine and can be surprisingly economical.

I went from a remapped 320i to a 428i and then a 440i... definitely can tell the difference between each engine jump

Not a bad price (at the moment..) and its a 440i. Would much rather a Petrol to be fair.
Plus its blue! Love a blue car. Hence why my MPS is wrapped in blue.

If you don't need the additional range and efficiency of the diesel - remember the price differential between petrol and diesel is currently large as well - then this will be a much more fun car than any 435d.

I am surprised they are available for under £20k - good to see that they are.

100% don't.

I'm doing 2 miles each way... and then probably dozen or so miles at the weekend. Possibly a 20mile each way stint mid week for work bits.

My MPS does low 20s... so I really don't give a monkeys about fuel cost.

I'll go view this one.

Nice :)
Looks like it has the M-Sport Plus pack optioned - upgraded 20" wheels, Sun protection rear glass and HK Audio.

cheers and 100% correct (thank you for the reminder!) Being new to the range (and as I didn't spec it myself), I'd forgotten that it was the plus pack. The HK stereo was (with the comfort seats) a mandatory requirement when hunting for a car.

Quick one regarding the car I'm looking at:

Good specification. Looks like carbon around those tips, so potentially an upgraded exhaust?

The dealer has disclosed the service history...
Service 1 = 2017 @ BMW
Service 2 = 2019 @ BMW - MOT history shows 48995 miles 11th July 2019.

NO record of a service between 2019 and 2022 (basic again at the dealer).

Potentially done 20k miles and waited 3 years before its been serviced again...

Spark plugs are due at 60k, which this being on 68k, means they are overdue... Does anyone know if this is a massively expensive service?

3 Previous Owners

Should I not bother even taking this for a test drive? Or shall I discuss the pricing with them based on the shocking service history?

It’s at Sytner Select, not Sytner BMW, which usually means it’s not full service history.
Which is fine.

But, is this gap so much of an issue?

Some places show 10k miles 12months and some show 24k and 2years... if its the latter, then its under mileage for the service, but over the time. Much less of an issue.

BMW’s are all typically 18k miles or 2 years. So it’s not ideal…

Spark plugs usually add £300~ to the cost at BMW if they are needed on a major service. M cars for example need them every 36k or 4 years.
