The Liverpool Club Thread. **No Spoilers**

Other than the final few minutes in the odd game we've not played it before under Klopp and it's difficult to make a major change overnight but given our injuries and how we're going to manage the squad available to us, I wonder whether a 3-5-2/3-4-1-2 might work. With Matip and Konate, hopefully, short term injuries and Robertson having played LCB for Scotland, we're not short of CB options. Kostas, Trent, Milner & Robertson can all play as wingbacks. It would also allow us to play 2 central forwards which will suit the 3 senior forwards available to us and allow us to rest one of them each game too.

Out for "months", so it's not just until after world cup but some time later. It could be Feb/March before we see him again.
Months could also be before the WC has ended too. And Klopp said in the press-conference that he doesn't want to put a timescale on it as he hopes he could be back sooner. All we know is he's going to be out until at least the resumption of the League after the WC.

We should wrap Salah, Bobby and Nunez in bubble wraps for the next 9 games until the WC. If we miss one more attacker we're going to have a much weaker team. Good news is that Ox is in full training so very close to returning so he can also play in the front 3.

Nunez is fantastic, the number of chances he gets out of nowhere and his shots on target (with either foot or header) are excellent. The chaos he creates in the penalty box is just insane. He's clearly not the finished product, he will get better.

Honestly what we paid for him could seem like a bargain in a year or so.

I've no idea of the validity of them but there's loads of stuff on twitter about him clocking the highest speed recorded in the PL, beating a record set by Kyle Walker 2 years ago. Whether accurate or not, he's rapid and a lot quicker than I thought. A couple of times yesterday he blew Zouma away, who is no slouch.

He's rough around the edges but he's clearly got something about him. Like you say, his ability to get into shooting positions out of pretty much nowhere and his ball striking off both feet is quite something.

I also recall reading that he recorded the second highest speed in CL last season. This season his champions league average fastest speed per match is 32.3 km/s, ahead of Salah (31 km/s), Mane (31.5 km/s), and Diaz (32.2 km/s), and is the same as VVD (32.3 km/s).

Whether he's breaking all-time records or not, this guy is as fast as anyone.

Yea, because of his size it maybe doesn't show as much as somebody like Salah but just watching him yesterday up against Zouma made you really take notice of how quick he actually is.

His pace is going to push sides back and he's also got the tools to hurt them when they sit deep too. As I said, he's a bit rough around the edges but he's got the raw materials to score lots of goals.

At some point you have to stop and ask the question: is it just bad luck or something wrong with us?
It's not bad luck, it's a mixture of having a relatively small squad, being incredibly successful and playing a ton of games, signing players with dodgy injury histories and our style of football.

Most people are blaming FSG for not throwing money at the team, and that could well be true in our case, but FSG didn't own Dortmund and they had exactly the same issues, most seasons.

I think nearly all your points make sense but I don't really buy the 'small squad' thing; Liverpool pretty much have two players for every position plus a couple of young prospects. They have 23 squad players registered for the PL, that's four more than Brighton and two more than Leeds and Arsenal for example. Of course to your other point Arsenal played a tiny amount of games last season, I think I worked out it was the fewest games they'd played since the 1960s.

There's not much more they can do to pad out the squad, when Elliott and Jones (assuming they are considered the best) graduate they will be at the maximum squad size allowed.

Regarding squad size, the problem isn't the number of players but lack of quality and availability. And we keep signing players that are more of the same.

We sold Neco Williams for a fair fee who was TAA's cover. He was reliable and very rarely injured, had proven himself as a PL quality player, played regular international football as well and understood our way of football. We signed Calvin Ramsay to replace him, who had never played in a major league, no international representation. We signed him when he was injured and now almost 5 months later he's still not available. He played yesterday for the first time this season for our U21's against Everton, only 45 mins.

Now there's Matip and sadly Konate, who when fit are high quality but they're not reliable. Then there's Keita, Arthur, Ox and Jones, same thing again. The midfielders always take a while to hit the ground running and by the time they seem impressive they're injured again.

It's not a bug that our squad is never fit. It's who we are. Whether it's the type of players, or our style of play, lack of proper player management, or something wrong with our physio team, or a combination of them all, that's who we are now. It's no longer a surprise when half our team isn't fit, it's the expectation.

The same Neco Williams that missed 9 games through injury from Jan 2020 to November 2020? the same Neco Williams that was ridiculed as not being anywhere near the standard required to play for us? The same Neco Willimas that's played a massive 2 games for Forest this season? Gotta love the revisionist history about ex-players from some Liverpool fans.

He wasn't injured as such when he signed it was something we picked up at the pre-season training camp that if it wasn't treated would develop into a major problem down the line. He actually played his 1st game 4 days ago I believe (scored as well).

Due to the nature of our style of play, coupled with a weaker standard of back up player at our disposal means that we will always pick up injuries. however, this season will also be a bit of an anomaly in that there will be loads of teams that will be hit with injuries thanks to the utterly baffling decision to hold the WC in Qatar in the winter along with shorter and short breaks between seasons. You can already see that players across multiple teams this season are picking up far more muscular injuries and we're only in October.

Neco Willioams started 11 out of 12 this PL season, and according to whoscored has the highest rating of any outfield player in their squad. You should stop making things up.

Maybe *you* ridiculed him because you haven't seen him play all that much, but he was actually a very good performer when he played in the last 18 months or so. He was also excellent during his loan move to Fulham. Last season against Porto in CL he had Diaz in his pocket. He was also fantastic against Milan. Another player that we didn't give enough chances to develop properly and decided to sell him for a profit to replace him with a subpar player. And you're just making stuff up about his injury record, he's actually quite reliable.

The injury was discovered during his medical according to Klopp.

Fair point that other teams are also facing more injuries than usual, us way more than usual. The world cup business certainly doesn't help, but is no excuse for the state the team is currently in.
