Liz Truss' huge net worth as she's entitled to £115k per year for the rest of her life

Politicians should be limited to a very nice but not ridiculous total income for the rest of their lives, sort of UC on steroids. We'd soon see who was in it for the right reasons.
why? I don't get paid for my old jobs. they should get a good salary when they are in power. most go on to very cushy jobs afterwards anyway. the speak circuit alone will pay as much per performance as some earn per year

They should also have consequences for poor performances. Liz should have to pay back her salary for the damage she’s done.

Those that are part of the electoral process should apologise for making such a monumental error of judgment. Your supposed to believe that they knew what they were doing now as much as they what they were doing then.

They get cushty lives, cushty rewards and absolutely no consequences for failure. No need to rip up trees they will be rewarded regardless. It’s a joke.

Because they can earn silly money after or during their political life, which can only ever be a bad thing if it influences their political decisions in anyway.

The idea is that they give up the further opportunities to be 'rich' to serve the country.

Dont get me wrong, it's not as simple as I made out in reality, but we are obviously attracting the wrong people into politics now, so how do we encourage talented people with integrity and a genuine desire to do what the country needs?

Just trying to be as rational as possible, but this is portrayed like it’s cash or expenses for personal use, but technically as shown above that’s not the case at all. Seems like one of these instances where the reality is skewed a bit by the media. Shock horror.

Hire family and friends as secretaries and a mates PR firm; easy money. She runs away from PR as PM, what's she going to do as a retired PM? Engage more?

I’m not saying it’s not open to some level of abuse - but there must be more in-depth rules about it. Although I am aware plenty of MP’s do similar through a bit of a loophole.

Just that technically it’s supposed to support post PM public duties which seemed entirely reasonable to me. It’s not an open cheque book for personal use, which is how it’s being portrayed somewhat.

In this instance it is very questionable what level of duties are sensibly likely to occur…

Perhaps her people will still have to answer questions many years in the future after quiz shows ask the questions such as who held UK PM role for the shortest time? Who singlehandedly cost the UK £65bn and was seemingly proud of it? Who stabbed her best mate in the back by firing him for a decision she helped to make?

Isn't this the case for all/most of the current lot?
Yeah pretty much. Unfortunately it is the only way these jobs make sense - the pay is peanuts compared to what a competent person can get in the private sector with similar ability.

Is it all pay related? Or those who get the most funding/owned the most by the media/have the 'best' connections get most of the opportunity for success in the dirty world of politics?
