I hope the protest protesting the protest was submitted on time and Alonso gets his points back
I quite enjoyed that. It was frustrating to see Max's bad pit stop and still know he was inevitably going to win though. Max and this car are just silly good. I mean he dropped lecerc by 5 seconds and passed Lewis in not that many laps. That car is silly good in the race, and seems to be amazing on its tires.
Honestly, I think Merc looked as quick as the Ferrari in the race today. Seems they have made an improvement. The RB is still obviously streaks ahead. The Merc just cant compete with its engine power/straight line speed.
That overtake by Charles on Perez was awesome.

I thought that at first, but i dont think it would have made a difference. The RB just seems silly good on its tyres. Leclerc dropped off loads and he was on the mediums.
Didn't Hamilton say his rears were gone? If the hards were gone, then the mediums would have been gone sooner.
As for Alonso, it's harsh but fair. That mirror could have clunked someone in the head doing 200mph. It was very obviously hanging on by a thread.

Decent race, voted a 7.
Shame that Merc had no answer for RB as I would have liked to see them get at least one win this season. For a moment I thought the mediums on Ver were going to fall off a cliff but they kept them alive really well. Sainz and Leclerc are good drivers but they're like Max in the early years; fast but prone to mistakes. Admittedly he couldn't do much about Russell punting him round but it always seems to happen to the Ferrari drivers.
Most surprised they didn't red flag the race to clear up the debris... some of the onboard shots of drivers picking up bits on their wheels looked particularly rough and for the sake for a 10 minute period they could have done a better job.

This season and new regs had a lot of promise in the first few races, but in the end its created an even more boring and one sided season than even some of the Merc years. At least with Ham and Rosberg, we had an intra team battle. In 2018/2019 (cant remember which) we had Ferrari getting close, and last year the title fight was epic.
This year it looks highly likely that no other team but RB or Ferrari will win, and Max will likely win the rest, save for any technical issues. Even last year we had an alpine and mclaren win.
Also, on the subject of the safety car and its increasingly frequent usage, the big issue is that the biggest advantage always goes to the fastest teams. Any gap they had to make up is nullified, and they can just breeze past the bunched up pack with DRS. As we seem to get a safety car every race, it means any of the fastest cars out of place just get an amazing advantage.

That was quite thrilling.
Alonso/Stroll was 50/50 in my book.
Had to be gutting for Hamilton to be sat behind Verstappen on the back straight with DRS enabled and watch the RB without DRS ahead actually pull away slightly.

Yeh... that RB power unit and its straight line speed is nuts. The Merc is just a sitting duck against it.
The Merc upgrades definitely seem to have improved things a bit. Nowhere near the RBR yet, but still an improvement.
It’s a shame Russell torpedoed Sainz at the start. It would have given us an indication of Merc’s pace and overtaking ability against the Ferrari if Hamilton was still behind Sainz after the first few laps.
Given that Hamilton was unable to overtake him for half the race a few weekends back, it would have been an interesting comparison.

I have to say I was surprised during the race they let the damaged winglets and mirror stay out on track.
Look at what happened to Norris, he collected a lot of debris after the Alonso/Stroll incident, and that is pretty much unavoidable due to the fact it happened right Infront of him, but if we can electively avoid damaged extremeties flying around, we should.

Yeah, not sure why Alpine wouldn't appeal Perez and Russell who also had damage, indeed part or Perez's front wing came flying off.

scored a 6 as I turned it off at lap 14 as I was tired, apparently I missed a great race 
Checo got lucky that it flew off before the stewards had a chance to look at it, then once it flew off there was no longer any danger of anything else coming off his car so was deemed OK to continue. No idea how Alonso was allowed to continue after that crash.

For most of the hybrid era, you knew from race 1 that Merc would win the season. Was an incredibly boring era aside from some Ferrari shenanigans and Rosberg. Having 2 teams in contention for a win is a breathe of fresh air.
First half of this season had a lot of good racing but RB survived the mid-season TD better than others, which is funny given who asked for it.
There was a lot of good racing in this race, and the safety car helped because otherwise MV would likely have won by a significant margin and there would be even more complaints.
Can you remind me which previously motorsports banned member you are?
Haas did also protest Pérez, but the stewards let him get away with it.

Reinforces my belief that they should have red flagged the race and allowed the likes of Norris etc to replace the wing.
Didn't someone else lose a wheel winglet? I forget who but there were a few casualties from flying carbon fibre.
I’m not, you’ve asked before I believe. I know you only do selective moderating at OCUK though, so I’m not surprised a tongue in cheek meme is considered more offensive than months of name calling etc towards members and drivers, like we’ve seen previously in this sub-forum. Let’s be frank, I post objectively without bias towards teams or nationalities. Many agree with me, as we’ve seen regularly be it with replies or reactions etc, not that it matters.
You can keep accusing me of being an old member if you like though, you need to do something after all.
Light hearted post is worse than false facts, unsubstantiated claims, flaming etc. Go figure.
