Pretty much this. Even if a new IP is greenlit, it's not getting the $300m budget of an existing IP. Look at Godzilla 2014 and Kong Skull Island. Directors often hide the movie they really want to make inside an IP they don't care about.there doesn't appear to be any desire within the studio system to risk their financials on an untested new IP as it's easier to buy an IP with an existing fanbase and then thrown your untalented staff at it to make it work.
Well the writers can't make a name for themselves essentially copying the source material can they?
Bit harsh, I have enjoyed every season. But then I could be one of the few who knows nothing of the source material.
"Name for themselves"? They're still a bunch of faceless hacks. I wouldn't be able to name any of them without looking them up
They're fantastic. The audiobooks are also brilliant. Will give the books a whirl I think, be nice under a candle in the winter power cuts![]()

I read all the books and am currently bored of the console-porty controls/mechanics in the second game, as the first was waaaaaaay more enjoyable.Bit harsh, I have enjoyed every season. But then I could be one of the few who knows nothing of the source material.
Look back at how obviously enthusiastic Cavill was going in (and on how he got the role), but also his determination they stick to the source material, and you can soon see there are likely ulterior motives here. You don't go that far to secure a part and then drop it for no reason. I also can't imagine Netflix wasn't paying decently considering he was really the main star power the show had, and it's been a big numbers show for Netflix.Seems superman going big again. Maybe everyone was reading too much into it
Or he got the Bond role....
Pretty gutted when I read he was leaving, I dont mind LH at all but HC IS Geralt. Looking forward to season 3 anyway.
I loved the fact he was so into it, I think it actually showed in his portrayal.Honestly read the shenanigans he and his agent got up to to ensure he got an audition for the role, and it's pretty clear he really did want this role. He took a relatively low pay check (given his hollywood status) for the first season also, to help get it over the line (his wage went up 2.5x for the second season...).
If you've picked up a dream role, and are already making all the money you need, then you don't necessarily walk away even if other roles come around.
Simple fact is he was very clear from the start he wanted this to be true to the books as was originally promised; and is a fan of the books and games, so given the way the writing has gone, and the fact its come out many of the writing staff shouldn't be working on this IP, it really doesn't take much to put together why he is leaving, especially as its adding insult to injury over what he was promised and signed up for.
He may have other roles come up that the SITUATION are making more desireable to him, but honestly I think his decision to leave lies heavily on the writers and showrunners, because doing this was something he was obviously rediculously enthusiastic about, at least before it became clear where the show was going.
