Take what I say with a pinch of salt. Based on the reviews benchmarks I've seen all the 5000 series (5600x, 5800x and 5900x) are in a similar ball park gaming wise.

However the 5800x3d is in a league above.

Much better minimum, average and max

I mostly speak about the 5600x as that's what I was upgrading from.

However I think the biggest advantage of the 5800x3d will be the minimum frames.

I was a bit on the fence if I should upgrade or not as my 5600x doesn't seem to be holding me back especially when you add gsync as well but it's done now. Couldn't resist.
 
I just can't get over paying £230 for a CH6 over 5 years ago, it still holding its own in 2022 and me being able to drop in a 5800X3D.

Interesting. I had read of the improvements but also read that it would only be a 3-5% improvement so was on the fence with it.
I think some further investigation is required as if worth it, I would switch out and await the maturing of AM5 platform.

Anyone thinking of buying a 5800X 3D needs to potentially do so quickly, my reasoning:

1. There are currently two rebates running for resellers, $70 and $50, the $70 rebate is ending November 19th, at which point AMD's new MSRP will be £399-419 depending on exchange rate. OcUK is still at £349 for this incredible CPU.
2. Stock is really hard to source now, AMD sales in Europe went up from around 500 units a week to 5000+ with this new rebate.
3. Now it is possible come November 20th AMD will just re-activate the $70 additional rebate, they may of course not do so either, or they could reduce or increase it. I doubt the latter because there is practically no stock left now, unless AMD have huge stockpiles, this is unknown but stock in master distribution is all dried up with a few hundred due in a week or so, vastly below current demand.

So at £349 it is an absolute bargain, could it get cheaper, yes, could it get more expensive yes, my bets are on the latter due to rebate ending and what seems to be a lack of stock. If it got cheaper then sure £329 is a maybe, if AMD is hiding like 100k plus units away then £299 would be insane, but I am not seeing any vast amounts of stock anywhere as such I cannot see it getting cheaper and feel it is more likely to get more expensive. I noticed a few competitors have increased pricing and many have sold out.

So how do you go about claiming the rebate? I may be severely tempted with that as I can sell my 5800X and potentially not be too much out of pocket.

Gibbo said the the rebate is for resellers - OCUK's current price of £349 includes this rebate and in his opinion, the price is only likely to go up.

£349 includes rebates, AMD pay us not you. ;)

A master disti just got stock, quoted me £20 higher even with a stronger pound, so it is fair to say prices will go up, might explain why competitors have already increased the pricing because the distributors are on the scalp.

Depending on reviewer some benchmarks are 20-40% depending on game. Some show 0% improvement some big improvement.

Other benchmarks show average at 1440p at around 8%.

But I still expect minimums to be where the most gains are rather than average.

The minimums / low 1%'s are what interest me the most. I swap between 1080p 240hz and 1440p 165hz depending on what I'm playing - and the improvements to the 1% lows at 1080p seem really tempting.

Apologies, Head is firmly up my backside at the minute with the Vid. Makes sense. I think I be as well make a purchase as I won't be jumping to AM5 for a few years yet.
 
Just swapped from a 5950x to the 5800X3D and I love it, found the 5950x was holding my 4090 back a bit at native 4K depending on the game and especially when DLSS was enabled due to the lower rendering resolution. As I was already on the AM4 platform the 5800X3D was cheap upgrade because once I sell my 5950x that will cover most of the upgrade. It was either that or spent 2K on AM5 or Intel as I would have to change the CPU, board and RAM to the equivalent of what I had. This new CPU will allow me to squeeze a bit more life from AM4 yet :)

A quick Far Cry 6 run at native 4K, all details maxed out and DXR features enabled, for native 4K a simple CPU swap gave me a nice little boost.

Apart from swapping out the CPU nothing else changed, same BIOS, drivers and same Windows 11 install.

Yep myself and 8 Pack have been posting about how 4090 is CPU bottlenecked, really needs the best which is 5800X 3D, 7900/7950X or a 13900K and ideally further improvements when overclocking as well.
 
@Gibbo

Has shipping speed to NI improved considerably since I last used ocuk? :p Stopped using ocuk tbh as delivery/dispatch was very slow, like 4 days to dispatch where as competitor gets it dispatched same day.

Going to get one myself now.

My thoughts too...... :cry:

But given that the 5800x3d is selling extremely well and outselling all the new cpus combined, I can see the price going up tbf, especially if rebates aren't renewed. But for the sake of maybe a £20 saving, I'm just biting now.

As I said in my original post there is a chance either can happen, but based on how well they have sold at current pricing and the fact the $70 is ending I'd be surprised if AMD did anything better than there is now, it would make poor business sense unless they are really sat on huge stock piles, then yeah no reason why $70 could not become $140 rebate, but if I was gambling on this I'd be betting they won't.

End of the day if people are happy to pay £350 then that is that, if it goes up you feel even better about the purchase, if it goes down then you feel annoyed but end of day you spent the cash because you were happy to do so.
 
That's mine ordered.

Should be a nice upgrade over my 3600 and be good for the next couple of years. It was this or the 5900X around the same price (bit cheaper actually at £332) but I don't use my rig with stressful applications that benefit the additional cores outside of gaming, so 5800X3D it is.
