AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D Cache Eight Core 4.5GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail - Go Go Go xD

I've just switched to one from a 5900X and the difference is very noticeable in some games. Spider-Man Remastered is significantly smoother at Very High with High RT, and War Thunder is now locked to my 237 FPS limit. That's with a 6800XT so the gains with a faster card will be greater.

Black friday deals will now start popping up over the next couple of weeks so if I see one for any cheaper than the current deals, will pick one up and also get an arctic freezer 240mm to keep it cool, don't think my be quiet shadow rock 3 would be up to the job!

The Pure rock 2 is rated for 150TDP, the Shadow rock 3 is rated for 190TDP, You should be fine with your current cooler.

Yeah, some game engines benefit far more than others and if you know which games, and you play those games, then it's definitely worth purchasing. I play a lot of Bethesda Creation Engine games (Skyrim, FO4) and it works wonders there according to all the benchies I have seen. However I am going to sit tight and wait for the 7x003D and see how much of an increase that is before I make any decisions. :)

I'm still really tempted and interested to see that others with faster CPUs than my 5600x have upgraded to the 5800x3d.

I suppose if I do not upgrade the GPU untill the Nvidia 5000 series then theoretically I will be on this platform for another 2 years.

Drop the 5800x3d in and sit tight for a while.

I wish it wasn't on sale so I wasn't tempted.

I suppose the other thing to ask is is my 5600x well matched for the RTX 3080 or am I holding it back?

Think I already know the answer to this one and its inevitable I will buy one.

Also a NH-D14 cooler should come fine with the 5800x3d?

You can get £100-150 for your 5600X making the upgrade around £200 for further future proofing. Good deal IMO.

Unsure about the D14, it's a Noctua so probably fine and you should undervolt any way.

Swaped my 3600 to a 5800x 3d, motherboard is a auros x570 master and flashed the bios to f35.
The 5800x 3d does not boost at all, seems to be stuck at 3300 mhz.

You need to be on F36c or higher:

F36c:
  1. Update AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.6 B for Ryzen 7 5800X3D support
  2. Reappear the option of Max CPU Boost Clock Override for Vermeer
F36f:

  1. Checksum : D6DE
  2. Update AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.7

I so want to upgrade to a 5800X3D from my 5600X cause the games I play now benefit from it but I have a R6 with 1 front intake 2 fans on NH-D15 and one exhaust with all running at 600rpm ( I have hyper-sensivitity to sound and light ) so I know there's very likely no way I am going to be able to keep this sucker under 70oc

Does the 5800x3d run hot then?

I’m not sure where it runs really hot has come from. In gaming mine sits at no more than 60c in Spider-Man in other games it’s usually about 50c . There is a program called pbo tuner and you can under volt your chip with every core. Your mileage will vary but mine does -30 on all cores no problem.
