Mine arrived this afternoon too via Yodel. Thankfully, my wife was in.

Won't be able to install it until the weekend though, which is a pain.

Have a feeling I might be having to get better cooling solution though.

I have an Alpenfohn Brocken 2 PCGH Edition Dual Fan CPU Cooler (140 mm), so hopefully it'll cope!

DPD are so so good for us. Always an accurate tracker, accurate delivery window, easy to rearrange and they actually deliver the item vs. Hermes/Evri launching it at my front door and then saying parcel handed to resident and signed for.

Is this the final swansong for am4? I have a 3900x paired with my 4090 for gaming at 5120x1440 mainly on iRacing, rf2 and soon Modern Warfare 2/Warzone 2.0. Do I upgrade now, or see if we get something else for am4?

That's it for AM4. No news of anything else for it and can't see it seeing as AM5 is out.

Yeah, some game engines benefit far more than others and if you know which games, and you play those games, then it's definitely worth purchasing. I play a lot of Bethesda Creation Engine games (Skyrim, FO4) and it works wonders there according to all the benchies I have seen. However I am going to sit tight and wait for the 7x003D and see how much of an increase that is before I make any decisions. :)

Thats just what I was wanting to hear, thanks. I've got one on order should be here soon its in the post... somewhere (ordered elsewhere before the price drop and I'm still waiting, sod's law). 7x00x3d will be next year apparently but a mobo switch hopefully prices on those will have dropped by then

X670E sucks as far as im concerned compared to x570, PCI-e 5 everywhere, my arse....... everywhere except for M.2 slots 3 and 4 and the 3rd PCI-e x 16 slot, overpriced boards, until the chipset supports PCI-e 5 I wont be buying, it doesnt do anything that my X570S does, the 5800X3D is keeping up with Ryzen 7000 in games, and as AMD is very reliant on RAM, I wouldnt be surprised if most of the performance uplift has just come from DDR5 instead of DDR4, seems like a step backward to B350 / X370 to me, if you go with B650 you dont get PCI-e 5 at all except the GPU slot. (rant over)

I think it maybe because it clocks higher.
I forgot it was a few hundred Mhz higher than a 5800X.
That's one reason plus I liked having all those cores when doing the odd video editing, using virtual machines or compressing files.
Like I said, It wasn't a dig or anything at yourself.
There was a point when I was seeing threads elsewhere daily of people making their first builds and it almost always included a 5950X which I personally thought was mega overkill.

Let us know how you get on. I have a Alpenfohn Dolomit Premium with the one fan, should hopefully be fine with undervolting. I was hoping to add another fan but think I have a clearance issue on the black side of the HSF.

Your Alpenfohn looks a bit more meatier than mine, so if mine can provide acceptable temps you should be fine.

I have some free time on Sunday so will install then and run Prime for 30 minutes, as that for me provides absolute worse case max temps. If temps are ok with that then I know its fine for other activity like gaming.

I should do some thermal and gaming performance tests with my current 3700X for comparison, not sure I can be **** though :o. Whilst the X3D isn't as good in productivity, it should still be a boost for the few non-gaming tasks I do (Filmora X & HandBrake encoding).

In terms of undervolting is there a guide? From my understanding, it can't be done in the bios with pbo negative offset like I have done with my 5600x but instead needs to be done with a 3rd party program in windows?
