seriously what did you expect signing him.

To give a serious answer. Zlatan came to United at the same age and was integral to our Europa and League cup win so why couldn't it happen again? Ronaldo had just been top scorer in the Serie A. There was no reason to think he couldn't tear it up for a couple of seasons as it was. We had also just finished 2nd in the league.

People are quick to forget that Ronaldo scored 24 goals last season. You can argue it was at the detriment to the team but he still scored them.

Then all the drama started. Ronaldo missed all preseason, went home early from games, refused to come on against spurs then went down the tunnel. He wasn't match fit and his flow has completely gone.

That is what I want to know but I guess we will never know what truthfully happened between himself and ETH during pre season.

I expected to get an over the hill primadonna who caused us all sorts of issue and was an absolute nightmare when we wanted to get rid of him.

10/10 - has met all expectations

Because its Ronaldo. Literally that. Zlatan is arrogant but a different type of personality. Zlatan is arrogant because he knows what he is capable of and is generally a consummate professional. Ronaldo is like a spoilt 12 year old that no one has ever told off. The sort that has spent so long being indulged that anything less that complete control, adulation and pandering is seen as an affront to his divinity. The sort that is so out of touch with reality that he will say things that are completely mental to normal people but he can't fathom how he might be wrong.

Is Ronaldo just not at that stage of his career where he should quit, but he’s so arrogant he can’t see this and believes he can still actually play at the top level?

Max Verstappen springs to mind

He doesn't have to quit. He has two options, he can either be a squad player at a bigger club like Giggs, Neville etc accepted or he can go be a big player at a smaller club

It was a bit weird Ronaldo mentioning there has been zero progress in the facilities during his second time at the club. There has been quite a lot of work done and completed, a great deal since ETH arrived and demanded this and that was done. No idea why he said what he said about that.

To get fans on his side.

The interview had two purposes

1. Engineer a move, through getting his contract terminated
2. Protect his own image by turning fans against the club, owners and manager. In this he massively miscalculated because most fans will undoubtedly choose the club and manager over him and fans were already against the owners.

I get that reason, and 100% agree with you, but any fan would know about the improvements over the last 2 years, and for him say there hasn't been any, or very limited is total ********. So apart from a few points he made last that were fairly true (disregarding the family loss, I am not even going to talk about that as thats enough to destroy anyone), we can safely say most fo what he has said, or will say tonight will be ********.

Obviously some things will be similar. I bet even if I went to my primary school from 25 years ago I would recognise some bits.

Carrington had a major improvement in 2013 when he wasn't there for sports science and all that gubbins. That did confuse me as well as to why he said that it is almost as if he is just saying it because we all know the ground needs investment.
