NVIDIA 4000 Series

Well that was kind of inevitable :D

I figured that, since I need a new PSU anyway and the AX is only £200 more than the HXi, if I'm spending at least £1830 on the GPU & PSU, I may as well spend another £200.

That's how I'm justifying it anyway lol
I previously had an Ax1500i which i found perfect , when it needed replacement i was looking high and low for a Ax1600i but couldn't find one anywhere due to mining at the time and when they came in stock sold out instantly ... had i been able to get my hands on one back then would no doubt be happily using it today :D The Fan doesn't even come on till load is around 800w so basically silent operation

Yeah this is a "lifetime" PSU basically, it should last me forever.

Hopefully the GPU will last a good few years too but then I said that two years ago about my 3080.
If anyone is after an Asus TUF 3080 OC then keep an eye on the MM over the holidays :D

The 4090 is still in stock on the website - did they suddenly find a load down the back of the sofa or something?!

Scalpers hoping for an Xmas bonus will be crying tonight. some want 2k plus for the Fe so good luck with that lol and still in stock. if these arrived yesterday it could have dampened the 7900XTX launch a little.

Yup.

I called customer services to ask but I was told there was nothing they could do and I'd have to find someone else to buy a 4090 for me.
you'll have to find someone wanting to buy a 4080 first..could always offer £50 off so £1150 and pay the difference for the 4090...only way i can think you'll entice someone

He can obviously return the 4080 but I think the point is that won't then let him buy a 4090, even if they're still in stock, as the system will register he's already purchased a 40-series card.

I posted this in the 7900 XTX thread but probably per pertinent here.

I got a whatsapp from a buddy at work yesterday that he ordered a 7900 XTX that is confirmed for delivery tomorrow.

Nothing wrong with that normally, apart from the fact this guy just loves tinkering with his PC and due to a massive case of FOMO, ordered three seperate 4090s from three separate suppliers on release day. Then scrambled to cancel two of them as he assumed (wrongly) that they would sell out instantly. So now it seems he didn't just cancel two of those 4090s, he ended up returning the last one to wait for the 4080 because the 4090 cost was excessive.

So now he wants to know if I will buy the 4080 if he decides to keep the 7900 XTX because the 4080 is outside DSR period. I said that I would not go over £900 and he said OK.

So a bit impuslive of me really as I think £900 is still a bit much but let's see. I know he will be good for the warranty returns if ever needed.

I thought I was bad...
LOL your buddy is on a whole other level.

I kick myself for moving to a 5800X from a 5600X regardless of the 5600X being a horrible chip.

And the billions upon billions it cost to develop are in your calculations where? ;)

He just assumes jensen sits there in his office with Microsoft paint and comes up with all these new architectures and cooler designs. The 100s of thousands of engineers employed across Nvidia, AMD and Intel, TSMC and AIB just work for free.

And yeah it is 100s, Intel alone employs 70 thousand engineers.

Nearly 4 hours of being in stock, week before Xmas. The 3090 when that dropped the same time period 2 years ago sold out within 10 minutes.

Good sign for the future. So much negativity and moaning in the last 900 pages.
Despite all the conspiracy theories, they need to sell product to make profit, and nothing can beat the laws of supply and demand, despite all the rubbish about "they can charge what they want".
People just need to be patient.

Well looks like the 40xx is selling well now due to the lacklustre amd release so no price drops :(

@Jay-G25 or anyone, can you recommend a not-too-ambitious undervolt I can try on the FE when it arrives? Aiming to run it 300-320Wish max. Cheers.
Just set the power limit in MSI AB to 67 and if the default BIOS is 450W that'll cap power at 301W. Reducing voltage will just reduce performance (as well as power) so using the power limit with stock voltage works best.
