I thought on the Debauer review he said the Gigabyte fan Rpm was running some crazy speed more than the Strix and was hotter.
Decided to send my SuprimX back, I don't think it's right I should compromise on things and introduce workarounds because of coil wine

Same with my Gigabyte card, quiet, cool and no coil whine. One of the best cards of this generation i reckon, certainly from a value perspective!
I did some benching on mine yesterday and on the default OC fan profile you can definitely hear them when the temps get higher, though nowhere near as loud as my old 3090 Gaming OC. However I then undervolted in MSI Afterburner and temps are way lower at load now.

I may try the silent BIOS profile later today.

I think i'm on the slient bios on mine with an unvolt to 950mV, 2700mhz target, +1400 memory and a custom fan curve to keep it passive most of the time* unless heavy usage.

*I play a lot of indie games that don't work the gpu that hard

I did an undervolt yesterday to around 800mv and just realised it was not game stable and was causing problems. I have now upped the undervolt to 1000 and stuck it on the silent BIOS so I will see how that goes!

Good job you bought that 4090 then! :D

Hopefully we will see cheaper RTX 4080 soon with new GPU die revision.

Still waiting for RTX 4080 Suprim X at £1000!

Hah in my closed case after a hour of playing Total War Warhammer 3 the GPU was running at 82c, basically the same temp as the 5800x3D! It can definitely heat up in warm ambient temps on a quiet profile. :)

I know there are lots of different factors but the hottest mine is ever got was 72° and that was playing cyberpunk.

What are the 4090s like under water ?
my FE on a EKWB on its own loop with 480mm rad is fantastic.

This was 20 min loop of port royal 4k. Die temp of 55.2c and 529w max power. Can't get it past 3ghz even with voltage unlocked but that is just silicon lottery.

Oh man I feel really stupid. Yesterday I was troubleshooting SkyrimVR for hours and experiencing nerd rage due to repeated crashed and instability. Turns out my undervolt was too undervolt and the display adapter was erroring under heavy load. Now I have upped the voltage, no issues.

Cyberpunk will get the GPU running hot, but not the CPU. Total War Warhammer 3 at 4k gets both the CPU and GPU running hot so its a bit like a torture test. :D

Anyway my case is thick steel, fully closed, and I run my 2x front and 1x back fans on low (very quiet) so their airflow is not high at all. I just took off the front and top panel and temps dropped by 10x and I will likely add 2x top fans running on a low speed to help dump the heat form the case.

TLDR: My case configured is optimized for noise not airflow and I need to optimize it and temps will reduce. :)
The only problem I still have with Nvidia is this damn "login screen on wrong screen" when I wake up from sleep with my dual monitor display. Instead of appearing on my primary screen (Displayport) the logon screen goes to my (HDMI and powered off) living room TV every damn time, meaning I have to pull out and plug in the cable to get it back on the displayport. I am not sure of the exact root cause of this, or if its a Windows 10 thing, but it drives me nuts.
On the plus side this very annoying "login screen going to inactive second monitor on wake from sleep" issue hasn't happened since I put the 4090 in my case. Now when my multi-monitor LG TV is on standby (powered off via remote) the screen actually visibly disables in Windows display settings, whereas before it actually stayed active in windows display settings which meant the logon screen could switch to it. Now it can't, woot! :D

EDIT - I spoke too soon, it just happened again. Doh!

Mine runs about the same core temp as the 3090 did when at the same power draw but with much lower memory temps.

With the stock 450w power limit I'm at up to 14c over water temp on the core, Mem junction temp is core plus / minus a few degrees and hotspot up to core plus 12.
The air cooled cards look pretty solid this time round though.

Unsure whether to upgrade from the 3090 or wait, thanks for sharing

have you tried the latest bios for your card i recall seeing a bios update for mine which mentioned a black screen issue on startup on monitor, so i installed it as i also have a multi monitor setup and my system always goes to the correct screen now, its worth a shot if you havent updated

Same boat, but gonna wait. Gonna be looking at the secondhand market in a years time or a new one if the prices fall enough to make it worthwhile. 1600-2k for cards right now make zero sense to me and if anything is just enabling these prices to go further in the future.
