The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

You sure that's right? 2.5w/kg isn't a lot at all, unless you're incredibly light.
I had dead legs from Monday's 70min ride, my longest this year, which didn't help.

But I've had long covid since my positive last October, my numbers from early last year are history and I'm desperately trying to get back towards being able to do 4W/Kg (~320W) for 18mins+ again.

Also had the fun of a flu-like bug that went through all local family for most of January.

213W for 50mins up this Rouvy ride was my best this year so far, sadly I've put on ~7Kg since September and I'm now ~87Kg, so the awful cycling combo of weaker legs and more weight.

Used to be a Zwift B bordering on A, went to a D and recently promoted to C... Taking positive fitness trends wherever I can take them.

If it makes you feel better 2.5 is about my threshold at the moment.

I really need to stick to a plan but I get bored quickly. I feel like I should check out trainer road but that looks even more boring than the ones on Zwift!

Surely the point if W/kg is the weight is less important. In fact, if we was really heavy it would surely be more impressive than if he was very light? Someone weighing 50kg pushing 125W all the way up a climb surely isn't impressive. Someone weighing 140kg pushing 350W all the way sounds better I would say :p

At around 100kg, I really struggle to get my FTP far over 3W/kg. I think at my best I've been around 3.35, right now I think I'm closer to 3.05

I do sometimes wonder what I would have been able to do if I started cycling 30 years ago...

I also wonder when the gains from cycling more get overpowered by the losses of age and I have to work hard and still get slower and slower :(

Pre-baby I was up to 2.8 but now I'm at 2.4. Hoping now I can get more regular cycling in I can get close to 3 again. I'll never be racing but I just want to be competent.

I feel like you could have a website with three slider bars on -
  • Watts
  • Gear ratio
  • Gradient
You put your weight in, lock the gear ratio to your bike setup and slide the gradient about. There will be a point where the gradient pushes the watts too high, above what I can do. I'm just trying to not let that happen! I can't get any bigger a cassette on my bike so I'm trying to bring my weight back down while keeping the watts reasonable.

Anyone made the jump from Zwift to Whoosh?
Is it much good?
I've had very limited experience of it on Poco F3 (myWhoosh needs Adreno 640+ on Android) with my Saris H3...

Tried before Xmas, did a short ERG workout from it's decent sized library, all good until I took a call ~10secs before end of workout. It then claimed innocence to my 29min50secs effort.
Two big Android updates since new year, each had big update in-game afterwards, despite looking paired up ok it claimed innocence to any power once my avatar was on a route.

Looks lovely. Downloaded on pc (i5-6600k; 16GB; RX 580) and it runs, but not been able to attempt turbo setup in lounge so far. ;)

A word of warning about Best 100 Climbs #89, the section https://www.strava.com/segments/32769421 is brutal, while using my easiest gear (34/34) an awful lot to take it almost as easy as possible it was a nasty ~10mins https://www.strava.com/activities/7742432671/analysis/5031/5647 ... The good news is that after this most brutal section you have ~1 mile of descent including a crossroads where you don't have way as the road levels out before you need to find your legs and lungs again.

The Rouvy AR version is pretty decent, a fraction easier than the real thing, but good for recce and training https://my.rouvy.com/virtual-routes/detail/36075

I suppose the best way is to just give it ago. It being free there is nothing to lose and £12.99 a month to gain.
Don't forget Zwift gives you 25Km free per calendar month, if you ride on Ven Top that points upwards pretty much from the start, your 25Km will last longer. ;)

You can also complete a Zwift ride that goes over 25Km, but you stop accumulating drops and route badges after 25Km. I think xp still accumulates.

It was very wet and windy yesterday (plus I need to finish bleeding the brakes on my winter bike) so I thought I'd try to knock off the Uber Pretzel on Zwift.

Total "moving" time of 5 hours 40 minutes, though I did come back down the Alpe as a cool-down (the route finishes at the summit). I had a break about 2 hours for a cuppa, jam sandwich and change bib-shorts / T-shirt. I was very glad to get caught by a large group with the D Robopacer second time through Fuego Flats so I could draft but also up the average speed. The Alpe was a long slog, about 20 minutes slower than my PB. HR was steady and comfortable - that last hour or two are such a mental slog more than physical.

Nice to knock it off but I won't be attempting PRL Full anytime soon!

Saw this fluid turbo trainer on sale so thought i'd give Zwift a go, had to build up a rear road wheel to use it but it's working well now, just did a 20k ride on it and felt like i was going to die and i have never sweat so much in my life :D

Only issue is im just out of gear to hit anything over 350w

Just did a ramp test before I start a zwift training program and got and FTP of 241. Much higher than I expected. Was expecting 210-220. Unfortunately I am about 85kg so not particularly impressive. Just in time for a couple of babies to turn up and ruin everything! :p

Hows your FTP doing these days @Junglist ?

Not great not long started a new job so I've been flat out doing that at the moment :(

Sad times. On the plus side though, congratulations on the job!

I'll soon be joining you in the list of people who have no time to cycle so don't worry. I hope I can get out on a few rides but I think for the first few weeks at least I won't be doing much.

I just started on this whole bicycling malarkey - got myself a bike on C2W last year, went for a few rides with friends and was afraid I was going to die. I am very, very unfit - many years of sedentary working and I'm also lazy :p

I don't like riding on the roads (holdover from growing up in south africa where it was just not safe to do so), so in week training has been a bit of a challenge, but I picked up a 2nd hand zwift hub a couple of weeks ago and managed to get my mtb frame fitted to it (but I think the cassette on the zwift doesn't match my bike, it's not overly smooth in some gears - but that's not an issue for now. I'm not dropping £100 on another cassette right now!

Started last week on the FTP builder program. Like I said, my fitness level is dire, but it's really nice to have programs that tailor themselves for your level - so I get a good workout without overtraining. How quickly do you guys think my FTP will increase if I follow the program? Should I rebenchmark in the middle to ensure it stays challenging?

Also, saddles. Jeeeeeezus, my poor nether regions! Does it get better?

If you need any help just let us know. Someone recently posted a picture of their MTB with a road wheel on it to use a trainer? Which trainer did you get? A new cassette shouldn't be £100 at any rate.

As to the training program, what is your FTP and what is your height / weight? Is it the 6 week FTP builder?
