The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

Plus i'm fairly sure you're more capable than me @Junglist!

Have you considered removing the front wheel and having some kind of fork mount? That would likely save a decent chunk of space.
Smart bikes do not need wheels….

I justified an SB20 on the grounds my wife could use it easily (once in 9 months to date).

Edit - I used to have a wheel on trainer and it was a real pain. My bike was cheap with a the hub and cassette that are part of the wheel, so had a second wheel to swap when using the trainer. Unfortunately the rear derailleur did not line-up between the two, so once trainer was up I really didnt want to ride outdoors. The matching cassette and direct drive will be a big upgrade enjoy!!

It actually fits quite well. It turns out I overestimated how much space the bike took up. (Apologies for the rubbish on the TV. I had my daughter in my arms whilst I was taking the picture)

hopefully the flooring will be here tomorrow, assuming Hermes actually do their job. So I'll need to take everything out to get it in. Decided I'm not going to paint all the walls as now my partner wants to paint some rolling hills on 3 of the walls. So that makes my life easier as I can't stand painting!

Will tidy the cables going up to the speakers but will have a little go in there tonight and see how it works out

It's basic and no frills but it gets it out of the house so it means my daughter's bedroom is now her actual bedroom and not somewhere where i could sneak in turbo sessions! Can also do them in the evenings whilst she's sleeping and my partner is watching whatever tosh she wants to watch.

Need to get a front wheel mount so that my partners road bike can also be hung up to the right of the TV but I think @AndyCr15 had a nice bike stand that I'd be tempted to get a cheaper version of and have in there so I can work on the bike... I'll probably do more damage than good though!

Quite happy with it though. It's budget but it works. Someone quoted me £1800 not including the electrician. I ended up getting all of the 30mm celotex insulation for free and all of the 12mm OSB for £80. the electrician was £350 so all in all I'd say I got a decent space for such little money - excluding the shed cost anyway. Once the floor is in, cables tidied and walls finished it should be a decent spot. If nothing else I can now watch early F1 and boxing or Netflix things she wouldn't watch with me whilst on the bike.

Im tempted to replace my shed with a larger one this year (money depending) and thinking of making a section of it Zwift compatible like this

Looks good enjoy it!

Really nice space. I use an old laptop mounted on the bike, so looking to use a TV in the future. Do the speakers all link in? Does that need an amplifier to power?

Also why is there a network cable going to the speaker? Unless there's a small networked player tucked away?

The speaker is separate to the TV. It's one of these... an Ikea SONOS speaker that we weren't really using in the kitchen so I put it in the shed instead. It wasn't really playing ball adding to the homeplug's wifi because all of our other SONOS speakers are on a different network and it kept having issues during set up, so i went with the network cable just for ease. I just use airplay from my phone to play music through it. You can link it to the TV if your TV supports Airplay. That TV was just a cheap Hisense one I got on Amazon. One of the cheaper TVs with most of the streaming services on. 43" 4K for £260.

I'll run Zwift off my laptop which is connected to a docking station along with the TV and an ANT+ dongle you can't really see. The idea is that if I'm doing a boring Z2 ride I'll run Zwift on the laptop and watch something on the TV. Otherwise I'll have Zwift on the TV

Speaker looks decent, in my head it was some massive 80's stereo style ones!

You clearly don't do budget like me, my TV was £10 off facebook and maxes out at 720p :p

Haha it's only because I ended up saving so much money by getting materials for significantly cheaper than I originally budgeted for. The picture is fine... the sound is awful haha. But it's such a small space it's loud enough for watching TV.

It's a shame the first F1 race of the season is no longer Australia. Would've loved to be in the shed watching the season opener whilst on the bike.

Yeah, I do really like mine, but it was quite pricey. The problem I found with cheaper ones was that the bike wobbled when on them, which got really annoying...

Looks like a really good use of the space, nice one!

What on earth are you watching :p.

I took the opportunity of getting the new Zwift hub to rearrange my pain cave. Tacx Vortex in the foreground is pretty much where my bike used to be:

Which was the optimal position, but right in the middle of the garage so a bit in the way :p.

So my hub arrived today

Got to say was a breeze to setup! Althoough not ridden it yet.

Did have to index the gears slightly so hoping thats not going to cause too much faff when swapping back to wheel/indoor riding through the summer.

I was expecting the misses to kick off, and my second worry was finding somewhere to store it when not in use (space is always an issue in my modest mid terrace victorian house!)

However when she came home with the kids and saw it, she said "why dont you clear out the cupboard under the stairs (loads of her crap) and it can live in there" What a result!

Ill try get on tonight for a ride and if I cant face it tomorrow morning instead. Hoping its going to be much quieter than the Tacx Flow its replaced!

@platypus - I could be wrong but I don't think you need the front wheel riser with the Zwift Hub.

They must be making a killing with this device. I know 3 people who have bought them.

You might be right - its there more out of habit. I'll try a ride tonight without and see how it feels.

Ok just put a level on it, and with the wheel riser in place the axles are level - crappy sloping garage floor - so it makes sense to keep it :).

Out of interest, is there much difference when using ERG mode between different bikes?

Just wondering whether to stick my hardtail bike on there to save me swapping my road bike over. Obviously i'd need to fit the cassette, but the bike doesn't get used much so that's only a one time task. I only use ERG for some specific training so having a full range of gears isn't too important.

Only thoughts are, other then cassette compatibility is the obvious bike fit.

My Tacx bike is being replaced under warranty due to the pawls no longer engaging, so went out on my real bike yesterday. I had no self control and pushed far too hard while recovering from a cough/chest infection and still feel dreadful over 1 day later. My legs are good, but my lungs... :(

Yeah, fit was a thing, but i figure as long as it's comfy enough, then it's still doing the job as i'm rarely on the thing for ages. I seem to have indexing issues with my road bike, so it's annoying switching between the two!
