NVIDIA 4000 Series

We're a few days short of 2 and a half years today (it's been 2 years, 5 months and 27 days since Ampere launched to be exact). The 4070 isn't due out until the middle of next month and the potential 4060 being spoken of hasn't even been announced yet, but is unlikely to arrive for at least a couple of months after that, given the rumours haven't even started yet. So it'll likely be in the region of 2 years and 9 months by the time the 4060 does come out, or... getting on for 3 years.

So no, it isn't really exaggerated at all. It might be if the 4060 was launching tomorrow, but it isn't.
Ok the 3060 (which is the card you should really compare the 4060 to) released just over 2 years ago.

Just placed an order for a 4070ti MSI gaming X Trio, used some vouchers I had with a competitor. Was looking at a 7900xt, but the stocked very little of those. 2k gaming is where I am for a bit, so this will be good enough for another two years or so.

Question which I am sure has been asked a billion times, lol. The power connector they come with, OK to use, or just get another one ? I just remember seeing tons of videos about avoiding them ha

Cheers for this, I placed an order for a cable any way, just in case now.

2 x new Ada GPU's for AI.

First the Nvidia L4 Tensor, Based around AD104 silicon... a 4070 Ti with double the memory.

And the RTX 4000 SFF, Info about the silicon I haven't seen yet but likely to be AD104, based on the CUDA core count.

A small form factor card meant for AI workloads somewhere in the middle of a 4070 and 4070 Ti based on its 6,144 CUDA cores.

That is a impressive drop in power use shown
That's the reason why I would genuinely get a 4080 in an instant if the price was under £1000 - The 3080 Ti runs at over 300 watts and that's with it power limited to 90% in MSIAB, and even in games frame capped at 75fps. So that means the fans are still spooling up higher, though quieter than at 100% or uncapped frames, the temps still stay high. 4080 basically walking along at 65% utilisation using 177 watts in that vid highlights the efficiency perfectly.

It arrived and installed, no problems at all. Same size vs the outgoing 3070 suprim

I see one big site already have laptops with RTX 4060 in stock, has there been much news/benchmarks on the desktop version?

RIP Gordon Moore: Intel co-founder dies, aged 94

'Impossible to imagine the world we live in today ... without his contributions'

Intel co-founder Gordon Moore has died, the microprocessor giant confirmed this evening. He was 94.
The chip guru passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, in Hawaii on Friday, according to the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the philanthropy org he formed with his wife.
Moore is perhaps best known for Moore’s Law, a prediction he put forth in 1965 that the number of transistors on an integrated circuit would double every year. He revised that in 1975 to doubling every two years for the next decade.
"All I was trying to do was get that message across, that by putting more and more stuff on a chip we were going to make all electronics cheaper,” Moore once said in an interview.
Either way, the forecast helped drive exponential growth and development in the chip world, particularly at Intel, which was co-founded by Moore and Robert Noyce in 1968. That startup, now a multi-billion-dollar international giant, soon gave the world the 4004 and 8008 microprocessors, the Intel x86 family tree, and more.
We at Intel remain inspired by Moore’s Law and intend to pursue it until the periodic table is exhausted
“Gordon Moore defined the technology industry through his insight and vision," said Pat Gelsinger, Intel's CEO today, as he and others paid tribute to the semiconductor veteran.
"He was instrumental in revealing the power of transistors, and inspired technologists and entrepreneurs across the decades. We at Intel remain inspired by Moore’s Law and intend to pursue it until the periodic table is exhausted. Gordon’s vision lives on as our true north as we use the power of technology to improve the lives of every person on Earth."
Frank Yeary, chairman of Intel's board of directors, added, “Gordon was a brilliant scientist and one of America’s leading entrepreneurs and business leaders.
"It is impossible to imagine the world we live in today, with computing so essential to our lives, without the contributions of Gordon Moore. He will always be an inspiration to our Intel family and his thinking at the core of our innovation culture."
Moore, who was born in San Francisco on January 3, 1929, is survived by his wife Betty, whom he married in 1950, as well as his sons Kenneth and Steven and four grandchildren.

all GPU sales are weak, people who don't yet have a rtx4000 or rx7000 aren't interested in paying more than $300 for a GPU. Everything is piling up because those who would upgrade, have already done so.
MLID doesn't need to show edited photos, just check stock lists at retail stores

as for 7900xtx selling as fast as they come in, its BS. Just checked with the largest retailer in my country - they currently have 321 RX7900XTX GPU's in stock across 9 different models

7900 XTX selling fast was always a load of rubbish anyway. It would have sold well for a few weeks on release. Once AMD boys got their fill sales would have slumped due to stupid pricing.

I would have one right now had they gone £699. By the time they do drop to that price though (2024) I will have zero interest. To be honest the way FSR is treated in Resident Evil 4 Remake I would still not bother even at that price.

AMD should be working with their sponsors to get the most out of their tech. Especially for good titles. I mean it ain't often we get a AMD sponsored game that is actually good and when we do they have done a ok job at best with their FSR showcase. Sad.
