And as usual we dash in and disturb that status quo thinking we are their saviours, whereas we just make another rod for our own back. Why the hell we keep interfering in other people's problems only to further exacerbate our (more than sufficient) own, I don't know. Gadaffi plainly told us what fiddling about with him in Libya would unleash, and he was spot on. Whilst unable to control the emptying of Africa into the west we go and poke another hornet's nest.

What is wrong with you?

And what did you make of Russia interfering on these here shores you seem to care so much about. You know, when they launched that CHEMICAL WEAPONS ATTACK that could've killed thousand had it gone another way. I must've missed the time when Ukraine also treated our country with such contempt. You should be ashamed of yourself for supporting Russia after what they've done.

Sheesh, wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that...

I'm coming round to the view that a collapse of Russia is inevitable. The country has too many problems, and too many disparate regions. But any collapse, or any civil war, is going to be extremely messy with huge humanitarian cost; and it's not just going to be in Russia - across the post Soviet various -stans there are frozen conflicts, many created deliberately as a form of control, which are poised to explode and the only reason they haven't so far is because Russia has been playing Policeman.

I think this has been on the cards for some time, and this war is the final nail. Amazing, really, that Putin did this in an attempt to rebuild the might of the Soviet Union, and it's ended up doing exactly the opposite.

There's a difference between policing the world and what's going on in Ukraine. We aren't interfering in local politics, we have come to the aid of a country that has been invaded for no other reason than "empire building". To make matters worse, this isn't in some far off land, this is right next door.

SU-34 was just shot down as well

Russian air defense has suddenly become super aggressive like it was at the start of the war and its resulted in taking out friendly aircraft.

Russians shot down 2 of their own helicopters yesterday and so far today they've shot down 1 helicopter and 1 SU-34 jet

Seems to be two jets and 2 helicopters now... not clear whether it was their air defence or whether the Ukranians have some new capabilities there too.

Quite funny if it is their air defence panicking after yesterday's use of storm shadow + decoy missiles.

What is starting to concern me is what happens once all this is over. Russia could descend in to civil war with places like Chechnya breaking away and a struggle for power erupting between the establishment and new people such as the boss of Wagner.
That could get messy real fast and would produce a humanitarian crisis of significant magnitude.

Would be nice if that happened now though, or indeed in Belarus. Ukraine could use a distraction and it would be funny to see Putin having to redeploy troops.

There were rumours re: the Belarussian dictator and his health recently, he wasn't well at the May 9th parade.

What is wrong with you?

I would really like to ask @Chris Wilson and others who seemingly align with his viewpoint what their desired outcome is from this scenario. Both from a hypothetical position of just before the war started and we had an opportunity not to intervene, and also the current situation where Ukraine is in a much stronger position after receiving support.

Lukashenko has been hospitalised. Lots of speculation about the circumstances and timing.

We didn't 'dash in', Ukraine literally begged for our help. We didn't disturb the status quo, Putin did. We're trying to help restore the status quo.

Actually we were training Ukrainian army units in the year preceding invasion and supplying Nlaw prior to invasion with the Russians already on the border. Johnson understood that needed doing.

However I take the view that we should have done all that. The US and the UK were the least tardy of all the allies and Putin is the dog needing to be put down. If not this time then very soon.

I wonder if he enjoyed some nice tea and biscuits at the victory day parade

Depraved if the case.

Could prove to be a massive miscalculation on the part of Putin. I don’t see the military willingly getting involved in Ukraine.
