Where is the breaking point for you?

Breaking point? Probably the loss of my job, family and everything I've worked hard for. Although I expect that would lead to me emigrating or buying a boat and travelling the world living as a bum.

I don't see what point there is protesting. Make a silly banner, chant a silly song, have a day out with like minded others and get some form of satisfaction that by inconveniencing others you've somehow made things better?

I think too many of you are putting far too much hope on what will actually change if Labour get in (and I suspect they will) at the next election.

Pretty much this, of course, i have a breaking point but like you it's pretty much losing everything through no fault of my own. At that point, I would start to plot vengeance on everyone that wronged me and it would be so extreme that they'll either have a serious mental breakdown or top themselves.

Yes I can.
My comment was more aimed at the sort of people who make minimum effort and then whine about not being able to afford this that and the other.
For example not wanting to work extra hours to get the money they'd like, or re-training for another career, or moving elsewhere because the local house prices are preventing them from affording a mortgage because they don't see why they should have to and don't want to.
But we also shouldn't make life impossible for people who do essential, but low-paid, work.

If people don't want to become engineers or pilots, but would rather be a delivery driver, fine. We all need things delivered. We need carers, cleaners, shop workers.

Very few people are saying (or have ever said) everything should be free. Free mansions, free Ferraris, handed to you by the state. But those on modest incomes *should* be able to live comfortably, meeting their basic needs. A modest house, a modest lifestyle.

Those on low incomes shouldn't be struggling to feed themselves, whilst their employer pays min wage and their landlord takes 75% of their pay for a slum dwelling. The remaining 25% being snatched away by energy companies, etc.

The OP is asking about what sort of economic problems it would take for people to protest or go on strike and you've gone all the way to some sort of John Wick style rampage :p

Protest is a waste of time. A lesson the left have never learned. They've wastes years of their life marching instead of being productive members of society. I don't have an option of striking as I'm not in the public sector. My form of striking is quitting and looking for another, better-paying job.

Not quite sure why you've felt the need to bring left/right politics into it, what I was commenting on was that I found it amusing that rather than saying you're apathetic to these things and so wouldn't ever bother taking any kind of group or societal action that you've chosen to frame it as you going on some kind of vengeance rampage instead.

You said breaking point, going on marches and striking isn't something you do when you reach breaking point. You riot, smash stuff, vengeance.

Brexit protests weren't a breaking point.

Poll Tax riots, that was a breaking point.

Which one did **** get done after?

I've already answered that. It's pointless
Indeed. So I would refer you back to my previous post - I found it funny that rather than leave it at apathy, you felt the need to add the bits about causing people who have wronged you to kill themselves. Such an extreme reaction to a very mundane topic of discussion.

Not sure how it's hard to understand.

If I wanted more money, I'd change job. I'd love to see my managers face if I told him I was going on strike. After laughing for a few minutes, I suspect a P45 would be heading my way.

Protest? To who, for what? Maybe I'll march around with a couple of banners 'Things should be cheaper, we should all be paid more, and interest rates should stay low'. And another 'No new oil - stop climate change, and lower fuel costs'.

It's not hard to understand, nor did I think my simple comment on finding such an extreme reaction as 'id make people who wronged me kill themselves' to the mundane question of 'what would cause you take action like a protest?' funny would be that hard to understand but evidently I misjudged that.

Same. Very few can actually strike.

But I wouldn't. Life has gotten much better.. This started with covid allowing working from home!

None of our leaders have a vision any more, Silicon Valley provide the vision now and it's not one that people feel in control of.

This causes a society that not only doesn't understand where it is heading, but it doesn't believe in what it is doing is making a difference either.

It's a worrying time, a society changing technological breakthrough is all we can really hope for.

I'm not sure if that's true. I think people are sick of the Conservatives for failing over the past thirteen years, and they want to kick them to touch. Doesn't mean they have any faith in Labour.

Seriously, if I had the money, I would leave this country. I am tired of the division and tired of the way the politicians have tied themselves in knots to the point where they seem unable to implement any of the policies we vote on.

So, breaking point for me is close and when I reach it, I leave.

I think its this too.
Its more sick of the tories than liking Labour.

Its more of.. Well, any change is better and labour are all we have
