Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall 'felled overnight'

It was self-defence. The tree acted in a menacing way.

I did it so that it didn't fall on someone.

It was infested with invisible Sycamore beetles.

It was a way-point for an alien invasion.

Hmm....

Nope. I really can't think of any other side at all.
Maybe it was a protest against lefty paper leaflets

an interesting perspective ..... " I disagree with a political view so I get to destroy some thing of significant historical or cultural importance? "
I hope you are just trolling/joking because if not I hope you never do jury duty!.

Because that's not believable?

I'm betting the real motivation is equally as moronic.

Was talking about this with the missus earlier. Our best guess is that the guy was annoyed by tourists coming to see the tree and decided to act.

Because that's not believable?

You know the painting was behind glass and not hurt, right?

Always the wrong ones

I’ve got a tree on neighbours parking place that shades one of my solar panels late afternoon that I wouldn’t mind seeing come down

Move the panel. The tree does more for carbon reduction than you do.
:p

Why did you suggest they destroyed it, then? And, yes, they did.

They may be a bunch of counter productive **** but they aren't destroying artefacts of historic value to make a point.
Failure doesn't alter their motive.

I'm not sure what your point is here. Are you saying it's impossible that the tree was cut down as some kind of a protest?

The case will be trunk-ated, there will be no leaf to appeal before em-bark-ing on a lengthy sentence.

Enough already
