What "man jobs" have you done today?

Fyi @dlockers I'd recommend the mix in a bag dry easifill over those ready mixes, it's much easier to sand.

Anyone recommend any tile cutters eg the below?

Im going to be cutting a lot of 600mm ceramic but don't want it to cause any issues. Happy to pay more for a cutter but unlikely to use it other than this bathroom for a good while..

Previously all my tiling I've use a dry grinder and it takes a while.

Do these tile snappers work with porcelain? They don't need to was just wondering. Intention is to buy ceramic. I was going to buy a load of stuff from protilertools so could go for these

For your time : going to go with same porcelenosa tiles as my other bathroom (had about a year now but some progress photos from previous work, hopefullyi can be as good as the tiler I had..)

Haha I did wonder if anyone thought I used Polyfill to do that job given it was in shot! I used Thistle One Coat and will skim in Finishing Plaster. The polyfill was for filling some of the cracks in the plaster from sucking up moisture during wallpaper stripping.

Edit1: unless I've misunderstood you.

RE: tiler; can you rent something?

This may amuse you - ever since we moved in a few years ago, each year I've had to unblock the drain to the soakaway for the garage guttering. I thought it was just all the crap from having so many trees around the house but after giving it a proper rodding with the pressure washer and drain jetter hose, this little blighter popped up!

Shortly after the ping pong ball and a lot more organic sludge removed a very old Nerf bullet was next to be flushed out. Kids! All clear now though.

I highly rate these pressure washer drain jetter hoses, with one forward jet and 3 back jets. The image below is just mains pressure without the pressure washer turned on.

It was in when we moved in (in the original utility room) and we were going to get rid, but the Mrs wouldn't be without it now

Quick, easy and can load a lot of stuff in there in the room which gets really warm with the heat from the two appliances

Yep, 2.8m high ceilings so defo needed :p
Fair enough. I attached a similar thing to the wall and for most stuff it's OK, it's just long dresses (the wife's not mine lol) that it could do to be a bit higher. Our ceilings are only 2.4m though.

I bought one of those to do my bathroom -They work a treat -I think mine is next size down so would have to measure it.
I don't think I ever cracked a tile.

I did try to sell it for about £30 but got no replies .

When we bought this place 13 yrs ago all the drains are soakaways and were blocked solid -During the refurb I just dug new ones in - I don't think you could ever clean a soakaway so it works properly - I also fitted gullies with dirt/leaf catchers on -Just go round every few months and clean them out. Problem here is concrete roof tiles covered in moss - Well it was till I sprayed them with Pro moss killer.

I've tiled 3 bathrooms with a score and snap tile cutter, it was a £30 job from B&Q though, nothing fancy. I used it on porcelain floor tiles and it was fine, they even had a slight texture... but that's their limitation, anything with a large texture and you cant use it, it'll just snap off any old way, the tiles need to be smooth. Sometimes you can get away with scoring the back instead (and hope for the best with the grid pattern on the back), sometimes you can score it twice, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're doing a whole bathroom with expensive tiles if they have texture on them. Otherwise if it's just regular smooth flat tiles I've found those tools excellent, fastest and cleanest way to do it, using a wet tile saw would have been more of a ballache.

finally got around to fitting a light over my driveway (nearing 5 years of meaning to do it)

was surprised that the 400mm long drill bit I had almost wasnt long enough to go all the way through

For tile cutting I did fine with a billy basic tile cutter but for anything that requires more intricate cuts you cannot beat an angle grinder with a decent diamond blade on it. Diamond core drill bits are a god send for doing holes as well.

I'm thinking of building a new soakaway for the front of the house guttering, just waiting to see how it performs after a good clean and a clean roof this year.

I have a leaf catcher installed in that guttering but I am astounded by how much organic debris is collected in a year which must be because of all the surrounding trees. The leaf catcher gets blocked in less than a year which leads to rainwater spilling over the guttering causing other problems. I don't like heights anymore so I'm thinking it might be easer to just clear the drain rather than the guttering!

Anyone remember the father ted episode where he damages the bosses car and keeps fettling the dent until he ends up with a cube of iron?

Yeah...that's where I am. I keep tapping around the walls to see if I discover any unbonded plaster. I am now left with dealing with this:

I hadn't realised to attach the cills, they bricked in - tongue and grove fashion - a block of wood. So as I was trying to lift the right hand side cill as it was a good 10mm out of plumb, more came off. Ce'st la vie.

Off to India tomorrow for a few days, so hoping I can at least slap some amount of muck on the walls so it is nice and dry when I get back on Saturday!

I think I might take a break from decorating/plastering monotony and start the floor in the other room....................

That sucks @dlockers , plastering is my least favourite thing as no matter how hard I try I'm just no good at it.
This amount is within tolerance - the only thing stopping me ripping off the whole wall is that I would rather stick pins in my eyes than do a full wall/room

Anyone who plasters ceilings is a sociopath IMO. No way anyone could want that job, no matter the money

Hah Shropshire isn't far from me... Which one you go for?

This was recommended when I was looking in 2021, in fairness its been brilliant and probably done hundreds of cuts and still going strong, price has jumped up massively though, I paid £65 with an eBay voucher in 2021

Dullest work call of my life, so did first fix on the deep fill...

I am away until Saturday now, and all that is left is final finish plaster, polyfill the plaster cracks thanks to the steamer, and then I can mist coat.

Oh, I also tried and partially succeeded to level off the window cill. It isn't perfect but I didn't want to rip the whole lot out. It's glued, but probably needs a fastener through the top and wood filled/painted......... in fact I might just do that before I run to catch my flight to India.
