I've never met Chris Wilson, nor did I know him. We've exchanged the occasional pleasantry on this forum.

Chris has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' about him. The knowledge he has coupled with his life experience, makes him, him. He has been very helpful in many a thread.

Chris has opinions, like them or lothe them. Just because his opinions may differ from yours, you are, and always will be, entitled to yours. Why shouldn't Chris be entitled to his?

As I said, I've never met Chris, but I do find myself saddened that he'll not post here again. 20+ years of contribution to our community written off just like that.

I dunno there is having an opinion and there is expressing an opinion it strains credibility the person expressing them actually believes in it.

Agreed fully! Just a few more bans and we can relegate ourselves to reading inane threads on boring Zigeuner cars and can go round and round with the same opinion and boring, well outworn anecdotes and repetitive stale memes.

P.s for the record I enjoy all variety of comments on this forum in the spirit of not taking it all to seriously. I like the posts which challenge me and force me to thunk. I like the different experiences shared by people. I came here for an IT question and stayed because it is a lovely forum. There is only one poster who strikes me as unhinged!

Because his (presumably fully expected) final post was basically illegal.

You can have a proper discussion without racists, homophobes, etc...:p
 
He was sometimes funny and it is good to have balance, but:

(a) his (often deleted) comments on what I will generously describe as ‘racial preferences and perceived superiority’ were ‘outdated’ at best;

(b) he relentlessly suggested that women, persons of colour and immigrants were the downfall and at fault in every topic with the vaguest whiff of that being of relevance, often when it was not relevant and (problematically) often in an unnecessarily demeaning or dismissive way;

(c) in doing the above^ there was often a goading and/or provocative tone, that seemed to delight in attention and provoking reaction;

(d) he further seemed to take delight in being provocative in this way whilst dancing around the quick and fast rules of the forum ( ;) ).

We don’t all have to get along - we’re adults and can handle it - but if this forum is a big BBQ where everyone is welcome and can hang out and meet like minded people, then I think we all can do without someone knowingly winding everyone up and/or relentlessly saying demeaning things for their own amusement. That’s completely irrespective of the views / positions held and it goes for everyone. At a point, it just becomes rude to the other guests… and the hosts too.

I’m not surprised that the organisers of said BBQ had enough.

I haven't used the ignore function yet, I can only stay angry for small lengths of time or I can just skim over their replies, the guy who insisted I lived in Stoke was bat **** crazy but he was perma banned anyway
 
Has it all kicked off!? What did I miss?

I rarely block, ignore or report people unless it's clear they are trolls or spam posters.

I can't believe I've been on here for so long... Nearly 20yrs!!

I never used the ignore function until covid...then i just starting to, not really for their views, because BowdonUK is not on it. :p

There are 47 people on it and I just checked, 20% of them are now Permbanned! LOL inc Chris Wilson.
