COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Covid IS real. There aren't really many (on a whole) that deny its existence. What a lot of people refuse to believe is that it's killing thousands left right and centre.

I wouldn't belittle people but I'd say some people need to get some perspective. Unless you're vulnerable it's highly unlikely to kill you. You probably have as much chance being hit by a car the next time you cross a road. It doesn't mean you should stop crossing roads though.

What has kept this thread alive is people listing symptoms from unknown illness (they haven't bothered to test half the time. And if they have, they say its likely positive even though the test said otherwise)

Your comment about trump/musk says you aren't against belittling people when it suits you.

Go walk into a town and see how many people are living a pre covid life. Blissfully going about their day while people like yourself are looking for reasons to have a moan.

I know which side of the covid divide I want to be on. And it's not the small side with people still prattling on about masks.
Trump and Musk are two of the biggest names who spread misinformation about COVID. Injecting bleach anyone? Again, I find it funny how people distrust scientists but are diehard fans of Trump and Musk (I still think the latter has done some good stuff, SpaceX etc).

Anyway, that's the last I'll say on this specific point.

What me makes me laugh the most with this thread is that whenever someones suggests that covid is just like a cold for the majority of people there are howls of outrage from the same few individuals - who are seemingly oblivious to the fact that the majority of posts in this thread from people with actual covid are just complaining of cold symptoms.. :D

OK so your opinion isnt based on covid at all. It's based on your dislike of trump and musk. Right.

This is my take on covid..

I've had it a few times and I'm aware of what impact it had on me. So I did a basic risk assessment to determine how much I should stress about it. For myself, I've decided to not stress about it.

I would advise others did the same. If it totally kicks your arse and you end up in hospital. Then look at your lifestyle, look at your weight, take some advice from a Dr and behave how you see fit. Just don't tell me what I should do :)

Science is ultimately funded by people not too dissimilar to Trump and Musk. Don't naively believe it's always got the people's best interests at heart.

People like yourself can easily say be empathetic but you disregard the fact that many third world places have to beg for inexpensive vaccines from our scientific community or act surprised when people in working class positions aren't afforded the freedoms of pulling full paid sickies whenever they get a sniffle.

That and the many thousands of people who were too scared to get cancer appointments or suffered significant mental health issues from the isolation and anxiety.

Its basically wrecked my mums mental health. shes only 70 but was so scared by it all she barely left the home for the duration.
Historians will look back at the 2020s and hopefully we wont have a real plague soon because covid has ruined peoples attitudes to needing a real quarantine.

What? What makes you think that?

Actually, don't bother, this is pointless. There are better things to waste time on :)

This is a good outcome for you. There are indeed better things to waste time on than concerning yourself with the fact that society on a whole has moved on from the pandemic.

What's your personal take on current covid?

How do you live your life around it. Do you distance, wear masks, get frequent boosters? Are you in the "at risk" group?

Your climate comment is interesting because in the same way some people just accept they have no control over getting covid or not, they also know they have no control over environmental damage being done on an industrial scale by countries we rely on for cheap products and by rich people jetting about on private planes.

Which shows the average person is an idiot, fancy that. The average person could easily use their political powers to vote for politicians who actually care about climate change, but they never do. They simply don't care enough out of wilful ignorance.

P.s for the record I took the absolute **** with covid, travelled more than I ever did, used it as time to really reconnect with my family, advance in my career. Oh and didn't get any of the lovely jabs either. ;) and yet still alive just like 99.9% of my age group! (But the old people I hear people whine. Ah yes those ones that the government basically locked up in old persons homes to die).

You looking for a pat on the back?

Are we reading the same forum? I don't think I've said much (anything?) about society as a whole moving on from the pandemic? :o That's what you seem to be focused on.

The average person isn't an idiot though. The average person has realised that politicians care about themselves, their bank balances and their cronies who come from the same handful of colleges and universities.

Average people aren't represented. Infact it's people like yourself who have a superiority complex that average people have no time for.

Defeatism at the 'system' is not a sign of intelligence, my good man. Carry on thinking that though.

Didn't need to mention that, it was obvious from your post. Hope you feel satisfied at your win, though?

Has anyone had any experience recently of having covid but the tests showing negative? A guy at work has been off all week sick, he tested every few days showing negative but had all the usual covid symptoms. Today he went to hospital and they said he has covid.

I have a cold right now and tests still showing negative (I had covid in March 22 and it wasn't any different than a cold for me).

My sister in law also has similar symptoms but tests negative.

The reliability of the tests can depend on the person using them. Best results are IMO done after waking up, both throat and nose swab. Never failed to ping everyone I know who had it with that.

You can't complain about those "spreading misinformation" whilst actually spreading misinformation yourself. Just to be absolutely clear your "injecting bleach" claim has been Fact Checked as FALSE numerous times -

In Trump's press conference, not once did he suggest that people should drink, inject or ingest bleach, disinfectant etc. Instead what he actually did was ask his medical professionals, there at the press conference with him who were giving a brief on the use of disinfectant's ability to kill COVID, ***IF*** internal use was something that those medical professionals would look at testing i.e. he asked a question of medical experts about future testing and did not give a statement of use -

Trump said:
"So, I’m going to ask Bill a question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposing when we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful."

So again, all he did was ask his medical professionals some questions, and never once did Trump state that people should "drink bleach" or "inject bleach" etc.

What IS true is that almost straight away people who did not like Trump started spreading this "drink/inject bleach" misinformation even though they knew that wasn't what was said and did so without caring about the harm that would cause. It even led to Joe Biden also repeating the misinformation that "Trump said inject bleach" in a speech he gave, thats how high this dangerous misinformation got -

Biden said:
President Trump says things like…crazy stuff he’s walking away from now, ‘inject bleach in your arm and that’s going to work". I’m being a bit — I’m not being facetious though; he actually said these things.

I know people have a hard time with Trump, but I don't give two craps which "side" people are on politically over this COVID stuff. The truth needs to be widely published whoever said it and those spreading misinformation need to be exposed as liars, whoever spreads it, and that misinformation needs to be quashed. Thats what is the most important thing is and not this current stupidity of "well I don't like that guy so its OK to lie about what he said to make him look silly and I don't care how much harm my lie causes" which is ruinous for everyone.

Isn't it funny how people come across as thinking they're far more switched on than the 'sheeple' yet they have major holes in their reasoning and plenty of other characteristics.

Who said I was more switched on? What are you trying to argue here outside of a soundbite?

Its basically wrecked my mums mental health. shes only 70 but was so scared by it all she barely left the home for the duration.

I feel bad for your mum. I feel bad for children growing up in a world of people bleating about death and ruin. Bad for people at school and university who lost a chance of a normal life inspite of them never being at risk. Bad for young professionals unable to forge strong connections. Entire stratas of society suffered because of the rabid people like below.

And for what? Their models which they now cling to saying that x number of people more would have died? The same ones predicting 10s millions of deaths? Their sanctimonious "lessons learned, we did best with available information".

At least we handed governments a ton of control, empowered large corporations, donated our families to the "Trust the science" pharmaceuticals etc. Totally worth it.

You looking for a pat on the back?

No need for that thanks, just living my life and contributing to my community. Watching your sad posts here with your continual symptom finding is amusing enough as thanks.

My original "misinformation" quote from my post was "Injecting bleach anyone?".

I'll put my hands up and say I got that sort of wrong (although my post doesn't literally said he told people to inject but it is implied :)). He asked during a press conference whether it was possible to inject bleach. That's still probably not something he should have said, given that he's not a meidcal expert and also his hardcore followers take everything his says as gospel, and some did apparently inject themselves with disinfectant (reported cases of poisoning increased). So some people did take his statement as being a potential remedy.

Forgive me for thinking this guy spreads misinformation, he who claims the election was rigged, when most people who got caught trying to change/fiddle with votes were from his own party from what I recall.

Sure sounds like you're patting yourself on the back for a job well done while reading the posts here that you continually keep coming back to.
